Richard Grieco
[edit]Just a word of warning on the following article - http://www.examiner.com/x-4501-Apocalypse-Examiner~y2009m7d1-Richard-Grieco-is-Dead. I saw this article and thought there was another star that was dead, but if you read the whole thing, especially the line at the end.. (Update: It looks like while I was writing this post, the article got deleted, but still shows up on google search hits. Perhaps this a site where these "rumors" are getting started.)
- DISCLAIMER- Okay, you got me. Richard Grieco isn't actually dead- as far as I know, he's very much alive. His career, however, is a completely different story.
It will expose this article as a "joke", but perhaps one that others might either take seriously or try to scam it as they've been doing with others so much the last few days (Rick Astley, etc.)... So be prepared to make another round of deletion exchanges...Cascadiance (talk) 02:34, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm... Now it's back up again. Weird. But still looks like it could start another rumor chain. Cascadiance (talk) 02:37, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Midnight (singer)
[edit]The entry for this individual on 8 July was removed as one editor, without any discussion, deemed him to be non-notable as the link redirected to the page for the group Crimson Glory. Should the entry not have remained for a month, with reversion to a red-link, providing the opportunity for someone to do an article for this guy?
Exactly the same thing (redirect) happened last month with Ola Hudson, and in this case the entry was allowed to remain with the redirect and was only removed at the end of the one-month period, which is fair enough, but what is the difference, if any, in these two cases? I would contend that Midnight (singer) be restored to the list for one month, otherwise it is inconsistent and apparently at the whim of one editor as to whether or not the individual is notable. I've never heard of the guy (or his group) myself, but I'd say he deserves to be on the list, at least for the month, every bit as much as (if not more than), for example, these non-notable editors of the local paper in Pintpot, North Dakota, who are increasingly cluttering up the list.Draggleduck (talk) 18:23, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Contributors make many edits "without any discussion". If you believe that Midnight (singer) should be listed for one month you are able to re-add the entry. It's all part of WP:BOLD. WWGB (talk) 04:24, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Waldo McBurney
[edit]I realize that from the History log that Google groups alt obituaries cannot be used as a reliable source. I'm not certain when this happened, whether it was before or after WWGB removed the web source of Waldo McBurney, but now when McBurney's blue link is clicked, a dialog box (in IE anyway) asking whether the now-compressed file should be opened or saved. The file cannot be opened. I don't think that it would be a good idea to save the file on the desktop. What is going to happen? Ed (talk) 14:33, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I found a link to a a FOX Network affiliate in his home state of Kansas which confirms his death via the Associated Press. That's a reliable enough source for me and almost certainly a better source than the previous one. Doc StrangeMailboxLogbook 17:54, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

John Fautenberry
[edit]Fautenberry killed 5 people over the course of 5 months and thus does not fit the usual definition (or even the Wikipedia definition) of a "spree killer." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cryptonymius (talk • contribs) 06:58, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe not, but it fits with what the available source says. No prizes for guessing what we follow. (PS. There isn't, as such, a "Wikipedia definition", as the spree killer article, too, is synthesised from available sources' definition(s) of "spree killer"). tomasz. 17:15, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Fautenberry's murders could not, by any definition, be described as spree; they were certainly serial. Spree killer states: almost no time break between murders. Serial killer states: more than 30 days, with a 'cooling off' period between each murder. The ref next to his entry on this page wrongly states spree, yet clearly describes what were serial murders. The media often use inaccurate terms in order to sensationalize, and thereby gain more readers, in order to maximize their profit. Surely we should go by Wikipedia's description, what is true, and what the source's description of the crimes is; not one word used incorrectly. Crime researcher (talk) 18:29, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- This is why I gave up trying to edit anything on Wikipedia. The only sources I see for calling Fautenberry a "spree" killer are main steam media headlines, which are usually written by failed comedians for people with the emotional development of five year old kids. And whatever. It's just not worth the time to argue the point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cryptonymius (talk • contribs) 19:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- The issue is that we have to source things, if you find a source that uses the correct term, then change it. If all available sources say that he is a 'spree killer', then that's what we have to go with. --Fol de rol troll (talk) 19:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

British Bond-actress Zena Marshall died July 10th 2009. She was either 83 or 84. Wikipedia gives 1925 as birth year, while Imdb states 1926. I've removed her from the list. She was only a contestant appearing on the audition shows of Idol, and didn't qualify. She has no other real achievements. With all due respect to the family, I don't think she's really a celebrity worth mentioning here. With regard to the edit summary of " add Alexis Cohen, has 35 million google hits..remarkable" -- the number of google hits does not establish notability, creditability, nor is it a reliable source. The link, Alexis Cohen, also does not go to an individual wiki article about her, but just to the AI season 7 page. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:00, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm glad you said that and removed her. I agree with you fully. Ed (talk) 19:01, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I disagree, she merited an article on the BBC News website: [9] which could only be due to her American Idol "fame", since a British news network wouldn't cover a standard small-town American hit-and-run. She also, for the time being at least, has her own WP article. I think she should be included on this page until a decision has been made on her own article, which is currently being considered for deletion. If it is indeed deleted, then we can reconsider having her on here, but this page should at least show anyone with a current WP article. EJBH (talk) 22:51, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- One reference does not notability make, and fame is not the same as notability. A classic WP:BLP1E, and a waste of our space so far. Rodhullandemu 22:54, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- That one source was just an example; if you require more her death was also covered twice on FOX news [10], [11], and in the British tabloid press [12], for example. I'm not necessarily going to argue that she should stay up here permanently, but in light of some of the other redlink names on this page, I think she deserves to stay at least until the next redlink clearout; and if her article survives deletion, then for even longer on the simple point of continuity across WP. From what I've read, it would seem her notoriety/fame/whatever is threefold. Firstly appearing on the show several times, which is not enough in itself. Then becoming an internet viral phenomenon - more impressive. And now finally her untimely death, which again would not be enough in itself. But added together, and given the noticeable media coverage her otherwise-standard death received, she's debatable at worst; not clear-cut. EJBH (talk) 23:24, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- What article? The only thing is a redirect to AI (season 7) which doesn't have her name anywhere in the article. Ed (talk) 12:12, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- [13] Recently created I suspect. EJBH (talk) 13:13, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, folks, but even with some media coverage on her death, she still fails WP:NOTABILITY. The only reasons there is even some media coverage on her death is because someone in MSM decided that by reporting on the death of someone vaguely connected with the American Idol show, they'd be able to garner a few extra clicks and ad impressions and hopefully make a few bucks for their newspaper/website. Other than that, she auditioned for Idol in season 7 and season 8, appeared on our TV sets for all of about two minutes in both appearances, failed to qualify for the show, and hasn't accomplished anything else worthy of note. So, while I feel the utmost sympathy for her family with regard to her death, she's just simply not a celebrity and not worthy of inclusion. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:06, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- There is currently a deletion debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexis Cohen. Until that matter is resolved, her death is a legitimate entry here. WWGB (talk) 15:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

- Having your buddies call me an "idiot" is also unacceptable behavior. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:36, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, fine. She can stay "for now". But I think that several weeks or months from now, it will just be seen as WP:RECENTISM, and if somehow, the article still remains, it'll eventually be wiped because there won't be anything more to say about her. But for now, I'm not going to fight you people,... As an additional note, looking at google trends, there are a few spikes -- for her appearances on Idol auditions, and her death -- but add in Kris Allen and David Cook to the report, and her line disappears entirely,... Football (soccer) players' nicknames
[edit]Specifically, José Carlos da Costa Araújo, or Zé Carlos. Players with these nicknames are invariably known solely by them throughout their careers: for example, few people who know of Ronaldinho would actually know his name is Ronaldo de Assis Moreira. Shouldn't this page reflect that? At the moment, in this instance, only the full name is given, with no mention of the nickname. EJBH (talk) 23:27, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- My impression is that we should first give the formal name (as the relevant article is titled), and include the nickname in brackets following, to enable the reader's experience. The nickname will normally be a redirect to the proper name anyway, so nothing is lost, and a little gained, by doing this. Rodhullandemu 23:36, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Given that Wikipedia indicates the form Johnny Reid "John" Edwards is preferable, how about José "Zé" Carlos da Costa Araújo? I have been WP:BOLD and amended the entry accordingly. Feel free to revert if you don't agree. WWGB (talk) 00:41, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Reverted back to Rodhull's idea; there may be some future merit in that "inclusive" method, I just thought it looked a bit clumsy in this instance. EJBH (talk) 17:40, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
