Great that you want to help! Inevitably somewhere in the future a 'Deaths in YEAR' page will become too large (the maximum recommended article size is 100 kb). As a consequence twelve Deaths per month articles (dpm's) will have to be created. It's probably why you're reading this.
Unfortunately the last few years there have been severalissues with users creating new dpm's. It took us (me mostly) oceans of time correcting their activities. That's why I am offering some context and 'rules' for newcomers:
Work your way back per month (earliest dpm). Just take another dpm as a template.
Take note of the guidelines in the dpm (at the top of the wikitext).
Do not include everyone in the list with a biography on Wikipedia. Example. Lesser figures should go to a suitable 'Year in Topic' page like this one. A definition of a lesser figure is someone who has less than 50 links to their bio. Use this query to determine the link count. In the example query Kudrat Singh would not be suitable for the dpm with just two incoming links making him a virtual WP:ORPHAN. Page views are also a good indicator by the way.
Make sure that new entries in your list have citations stating their date of death.
Be aware that the format of the entries differs from those in the 'Deaths in YEAR' pages. Include the cause of death (if known).
Also, unlike 'Deaths in YEAR' pages images of the deceased are not displayed.
Optional: if you want to make me really happy please cross-reference entries with the date- and cause of death in Wikidata. Click 'Wikidata item' in the entry's bio. Example
Checklist when completing a 'Deaths in MONTH YEAR' article:
Check the categories (at the bottom)
Remove obsolete name attributes from reference tags. Example: change <ref name="nytobit"> to <ref>
Add a Talk page and initialize it (see other dpm's)
Add a 'Main article' tag in the corresponding month section of the 'Deaths in YEAR' page. Example:
When finishing the dpm January; twelve dpm's for a year are now created. Turn the corresponding 'Deaths in YEAR' page into a redirect like this. (Background).
@Mill 1: Thank you for setting up these procedures. However, the item "Do not include everyone in the list with a biography on Wikipedia" is not correct. Any deceased entity with a Wikipedia article is entitled to an entry in "Deaths in XXXX". Regards, WWGB (talk) 02:40, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@WWGB: You are correct; the fact that an entity has a Wikipedia article warrants notability in itself for inclusion. However, I wouldn't recommend it; listing everyone leads to long lists, is error prone and distracts from more notable entries. It would have little value over the category of deaths of a specific year. I was also triggered by this rv by :@Deb:. In the end it's a mere recommendation. Moreover the guideline that new entries should have a citation will act as a more effective filter; if you can't find a citation for an entry it probably has no business being in the list.
@Bryan Krippner: If her only claim to notability was giving birth, then she does not warrant her own article. Having a famous son no doubt influenced the creation and retention of the article, but she probably did enough as an active member of Universal Negro Improvement Association to justify her notability aside from giving birth.
