Significance?

[edit]

Thousands of person go missing every day in the world, what significance does this person hold to warrant an entire wikipedia page? - Ranmin (talk) 15:24, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ranmin: Good question. For one, the Madison Scott disappearance and subsequent investigation used a number of tools, both forensic and SAR, unprecedented in BC history for a single missing person. Second, the search effort involved hundreds of people on foot arm-to-arm, searching with unprecedented coverage over such a large area--between Isle Pierre and Fraser Lake (50km) and some distance north-south of this line. Third, they used divers, horseback, and cadaver dogs to search both detailed areas around the lake and helicopter with FLIR, horseback, quadders and vehicles to search wide of the lake. The number of people alone who were actively involved in the search are indicative of how impactful this was to the locals, and the far reaching reports of findmaddy.ca bumper stickers and missing posters, cross continent, indicates that her disappearance has touched people, even at a great distance. All of this is laid out in the article if you spent a few minutes to read it.

Name

[edit]

Shouldn't the page name be "Maddy Geraldine Scott"? Csgir (talk) 10:37, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Nfox24: Hi, talk pages are mostly for discussions. Please ping the user when replying - the user gets a notification for the same. I am almost 10 days late to your comment. Anyways, going back to the topic of discussion, "Madison Geraldine Scott" will be a better suited name of the page. Maybe other editors can weigh in their thoughts as well. The part about the phone stopping pinging at 8am is unsupported / lacks a source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wigenstad (talkcontribs) 11:04, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title change to "Death of Maddy Scott"

[edit]

Maddy Scott's body was found on 28 May 2023 (which happened to be twelve years to the day after her disappearance); so I think it would be appropriate to change the title to "Death of Maddy Scott". TheJay123 (talk) 00:13, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think a better title would be Death of Madison Scott, in keeping with the original article, Disappearance of Madison Scott. Maddy was just a nickname. NigelFox 20:35, 1 June 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfox24 (talkcontribs)
@Nfox24 While I agree with and wanted the move, I will chime in that Scott is referred to by her nickname by her family and in media. This may be because there is an adult entertainer named Madison Scott and there is much unrelated content in results when one searches for her birthname; perhaps the family went with the nickname on their stickers and ephemera to avoid the association. But Scott is generally referred to as "Madison Scott" and thus that's what the article should call her. Thank you for making the move; it bugged me that the article's title included "Maddy". Siblings

[edit]

Ben is her older brother and Georgia is her younger sister. 199.247.239.5 (talk) 16:39, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you source that? Probably don't need that level of detail anyway. I removed the older/younger and now we just have siblings w/ first names. Thank you for bringing it to attention. Compulsive Researcher (talk) 18:08, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No sources. I'm just a local. I'm sure it might have been mentioned in passing in a video or news article. But I agree, that information might not be necessary. Thanks for editing! 199.247.239.5 (talk) 19:36, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
