@Daniel Case: Regarding this edit, as a first offender Sadek, if convicted, would very likely have received community service (not prison time, and certainly not "a long prison sentence") for selling such a small amount of pot, even on campus. Yes, the statute provided for the possibility of prison, but in a case like this that was unlikely. The important point, however, is that Sadek believed he could go to prison if convicted, because that's what the police told him. If you want to retain the wording in your edit, please supply a reliable source. Mathew5000 (talk) 03:46, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mathew5000: I will move the Washington Poststory ("The next day, Sadek — facing the prospect of drug charges that could land him in prison for 41 years — completed paperwork to become a confidential informant.") cited for this in the body of the text into the intro.
I agree with you that it's unlikely he would have gotten anywhere near that time, if any time, but the point is that, without legal representation and all by his lonesome, he might well have believed that threat, which I can certainly believe that the police made, and decided to go along with whatever they told him to do.
And actually, this led to the discovery that that link is dead and will have to be replaced with the archived version. So thanks! Daniel Case (talk) 04:16, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
