Tagged for Notability
[edit]This article has been created immediately after the death during a motorcycle race; this fails WP:NOTMEMORIAL.
Wikipedia:General Notability Guidelines and WP:NMOTORSPORT (sectionWP:NOTABILITY#Sports) are likely not satisfied.
So far, all of the relevant references are posthumous; the one ref which pre-dates death has no relevance, and is only there to support the padded-out (excessive) prose relating to the subject's family members.
It is possible that there are other refs which could surface, perhaps locally in the subject's own language, but this was a 15-year old (schoolboy?). Although the prose states "professional", it is unlikely he would be considered as such, including in monetary terms; another similar death was Hugo Millan, aged 14.
Other similar deaths which created posthumous articles were Paul Dobbs (nominated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Dobbs, with no consensus) having all-posthumous refs, and Billy Redmayne. Both were created as memorials.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 20:34, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Rocknrollmancer: At the lead of this page Wikipedia:Notability (sports), it was stated that
The article should provide reliable sources showing that the subject meets the general notability guideline or the sport specific criteria set forth below.
. Notice the emphasis of the word "or". Your argument that it does not have sufficient coverage. That could be true, but notice what I quoted earlier. It only says the article should pass WP:GNG or pass a specific criteria specified in the article. It may have not passed WP:GNG, but it may pass any criteria listed on the article. And indeed, this article passes notability per WP:NMOTORSPORT, number 3:Competed in a series or race of worldwide or national interest
. I think it is agreed that Supersport300 is of worldwide interest (it is indeed a World Championship), thus there is no need for the notability tag. If you could also notice, your notability tag you added says thatThe topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for sports and athletics.
But, in reality, it actually passes per what I have said above. The article does not have to pass both WP:GNG and a specific sports criteria. I think you have just misunderstood.
