[edit]Very much agree with the merger - it's basically the same thing, except there are a few other religious uses of the term covered in Dean (religion). bd2412 T 23:26, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Merge done. bd2412 T 23:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Title
[edit]"Christianity" seems like an odd disambiguator. The position is not part of Christianity, the religion - it's an office in various Christian churches or denominations. I'm not sure what would be better, but the current title is kind of awkward. john k (talk) 18:08, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- It was previously at Dean (religion), although I do not know offhand of any other religion that uses this title for an office. bd2412 T 18:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- I like Dean (religion) better, but it's still a bit off. Basically, my problem with the current format is that while dean is an office that exists in Christian churches, it really has nothing to do with Christianity. Most Christian groups do not have deans - it is mostly an Anglican thing, with a somewhat less prominent usage by Catholics. Dean (ecclesiastical office) might be better, but strikes me as awkward. john k (talk) 22:12, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Between Dean (religion) and Dean (ecclesiastical office), which do you think is better? bd2412 T 23:40, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Probably a slight preference for the latter, but I'd like to gauge other opinions. john k (talk) 17:18, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit]I cannot see what possible relevance this photograph has to the Article. A deacon is not a dean. And the Reformed Church in the Netherlands is not one of the churches which is mentioned in the article a having deans. Unless anyone can justify its presence, it should be removed. - The article even spells out that they are different words with different origins and meanings. Jdevienne (talk) 22:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
