Arsenal transfer

[edit]

There seem to be a lot of people updating the page that don't know how football transfers work, especially those of Arsenal. It isn't official until it is on Arsenal.com and/or the selling club's site (in this case OGC Nice), and until then it is just gossip.

Even generally reliable news sources aren't a reliable source for football transfer information - I'm not sure why the sports departments aren't held to the same standard as the rest of the newspaper, but that's how football works.

To give you an indication of how unreliable the unofficial sources are, in last season's transer window Arsenal were linked to bids for well over 200 players...they made bids for 6 and signed 3. So for every story you read about Arsenal making a bid, that's only a 1 in 33 chance that the bid actually happened, and even if it is true, it is only a 1 in 2 chance of it turning into a transfer.

Ospina may well join Arsenal, but until it is officially announced, he isn't an Arsenal player and his wikipedia page should represent the truth and not gossip.

Change current team to Arsenal F.C. rather than OGC Nice 2602:304:B2FE:A079:15C1:8F69:8D1B:8DBF (talk) 19:38, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Done - by another - Arjayay (talk) 20:49, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This shouldn't have been done, he is due to sign for Arsenal, but he hasn't signed for Arsenal yet. 92.251.104.7 (talk) 00:20, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Arsene Wenger has confirmed it and Nice have issued a statement confirming it. This seems sufficient to me. Atshal (talk) 11:11, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
