Frosty's Ramblings in the Morning Star
[edit]Morning Star - Peter Frost - The curious twin lives of Dr David Lewis, 15 January 2021: "David Henry Lewis was both a communist London GP and perhaps the most colourful seafaring adventurer of the second half of the last century." ← ZScarpia 21:04, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
- This is very interesting, especially since the conservative views of similar figures in blue-water sailing are often taken for granted. We, the Navigators (1972) is an amazing book, deeply respectful of the skilled sailors and navigators described, who have a different relationship to the sea than British or Europeans intent on 'discovery' and conquest. Francis Chichester explicitly locates himself in the tradition of the so-called Clipper Way. David Lewis in 'Isbjorn' is completely different. He invites sailors with local knowledge to come on board and to teach him how they navigate. His training as a medical doctor gives him a foundation in scientific research which makes the book so valuable. 142.188.52.192 (talk) 18:46, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
Sailing at 80
[edit]I won't put this in the article because there's no reference, but on our circumnav, at Neiaufu, Tonga, we met David Lewis. He was 80 at the time, sailing into the harbor on a 32 foot sloop, singlehanded. If I remember correctly, he was coming from Samoa, around 300 miles away. . Jim . .
