[edit]a copyright-approved photo would help! Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- I would just add a fair use one. If you can track down the copyright holder of one you could probably get one released, but it can be difficult. Richard001 (talk) 21:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Ornithology at start of Lack's career
[edit]Lack's studies on the living bird: even if the ref does say 'L's approach was not acceptable' it's quite wrong. Studies of living birds in their environment have always been part of both academic and amateur ornithology. Julian Huxley, James Fisher and Peter Scott are three English examples who were all famous when Lack was a young man. Therefore, I'm going to modify that sentence. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:07, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- The wording was incorrect, but the point should have been qualified that Lack introduced quantitative approaches to the study of living birds - and along with R E Moreau and Skutch were involved in the introduction of theory and predictions based on theory. Huxley was in the American school. Shyamal (talk) 13:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, wording looks good now. Macdonald-ross (talk) 21:09, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
The Lack clutch
[edit]I primarily know Lack through his work on clutch size in tits. Why doesn't this article say anything about that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.108.198.198 (talk) 20:10, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- This article still has work to be done, the work on clutch size is mentioned except that it does not specifically mention species. He did work on several (landbirds unlike the seabirds of Wynne-Edwards). Shyamal (talk) 04:52, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Lack's education
[edit]His archives, held at Edward Grey Institute, University of Oxford, contain a short but authoritative biography. This biography confirms that his undergraduate degree was taken at Magdalene College, Cambridge. Therefore I am reverting the erroneous change recently made to Trinity College Oxford. Group selection versus species selection
[edit]Does the opening paragraph confuse "group selection" with "species selection"? These two terms are not synonymous. YTKJ (talk) 22:26, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
