Deletion
[edit]This article should not be deleted. Because it does indicate why its subject is important or significant. The man beat Lebron james a four-time NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medalist. Which is a "reasonable indication of why it might be notable". The article is sourced and the publisher is Yahoo.com, a widely known website.--CPacker (talk) 06:19, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia says
"An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability; to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead."
I have added this because of a statement by User:Crusio, "Clearly not-notable, speedy delete strongly supported". As above an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable. But give a reasonable indication why it might be notable. Which I did at the top.--CPacker (talk) 16:31, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think that's a valid claim for notability. but let's see what the admin deciding on the speedy will do. If the decision is that this claim suffices to invalidate the speedy, we'll take this to AfD. The outcome of that is rather predictable, I think, because even if this event was notable, the subject of the article does not fulfil the requirements of WP:BIO as this is only one event. --Crusio (talk) 17:03, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- To me (who was considering deleting this article) the rule at WP:ONEVENT is relevant; however, after reading that rule, I can't figure out where this information should rightly end up. I suspect that the contest itself is not sufficiently notable that there should be a separate article about it, and it may well be that it merits a paragraph in the article about the professional athlete. Perhaps this should go to AfD to be sorted out once and for all. Accounting4Taste:talk 17:11, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Hello. I'm a random Wikipedia reader. I've seen clips of 'David Kalb vs. LeBron James' on YouTube - and was thinking: "Wow! Who is this David guy?" - as usual when I want to know more about someone - I looked him up here on Wiki - and was surprised to see that there is a deleted article on him. Added to my confusion - was the fact that the page was linked to some lawn mower manufacturer. There are over 3 million views to the Kalb vs. LeBron clips. If I, who doesn't even live in the US and also not that much of an avid NBA fan, was interested to know about him - then I'm sure there are many others. 79.178.0.196 (talk) 06:20, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
