Importance
[edit]He's a serious research mathematician in knot theory, so I think the doubts about his inclusion aren't warranted. Charles Matthews 21:28, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. I took a look through his publications on MathSciNet, and overall it's an impressive body of work. He has what is described as a "remarkable paper" with a coauthor in the Annals of Mathematics, and has consistently published in recognized, respectable journals in both mathematics and physics. His papers appear to be decently cited and he has also written several books, including those for the London Mathematical Society. He certainly is no slouch and certainly compares more than favorably to some of the math bios already on Wikipedia which barely pass deletion with many "weak keep"s. On the other hand, I don't think there's any harm in keeping the importance tag for now. The article could use improvement, as right now it barely says anything. --C S (Talk) 11:11, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I tried to add a little here. While investigating, it became obvious to me that he's been a prolific researcher and speaker, but I don't know enough about the subject to add much more or to distinguish which achivements are the most notable. --24.23.84.6 22:39, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
