Thanks for the speedy notification of the speedy deletion. I live near Princeton U., surrounded by a number of important professors who don't have entries in Wikipedia. So, I wrote my first article on Prof. David August, which I'm guessing doesn't meet Wikipedia standards. I'm gathering more information about his career and contributions to add to the page (and imagine that others can, too), but any input would be much appreciated (including whether such contributions are useful). Thanks! Dlnathan (talk) 21:49, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- What amounts to notability for a researcher is the notability of his research. This is judged by the degree to which other scientists regard his work as authoritative, which is measured by awards and positions, but also by the number and citations to published papers. Given the special nature of publications in computer science, you might want to check citations in both WebofScience and CiteSeer. As a general rule, even for places like Princeton, Associate Professors are considered borderline. . DGG (talk) 22:56, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Got it... thanks. True that associate professors often aren't "there" yet, but this guy is an exception. I'll gather adequate information and try to make it worthwhile. And after this, I'll stick with full professors and wait to upload until I've got all the information in one place. Apologies for the novice first effort. Dlnathan (talk) 01:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
