Georgetown

I have changed the reference to setting in Baltimore to Washington, D.C. - - - Dave clearly bicycles to work over the conduit streetcar tracks of P Street, NW, Georgetown, D.C., and his employment office is in no less a location than "Doc" Dalinsky's Drug Store where Doc hosted a usual Sunday brunch for the likes of Art Buchwald, David Brinkley, and Ben Bradlee. After Doc died, it became a trendy clothing store, who are probably the folks the "Dave" film production team rented the space from.

Also - when Dave Kovic leaves the Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Dwayne asks him if he is okay. Kovic says he is - and adds "It's not far." Georgetown is directly south of Bethesda on Wisconsin Avenue.

Removed bit about parallels to Clinton Administration

It must be more than coincidence that the president in the movie is named "Bill", is disrespected by his strong-willed wife, and is portrayed as having extra-marital affairs with young, attractive members of his staff.

Actually, this cannot be more than coincidence, seeing as Monica Lewinsky was not even hired by the white house until 1995 (see Lewinsky scandal), and this movie was released in 1993. Still, its an interesting coincidence, so if there is any way to incorporate it coherently in to the article, then I'm all for it. ObsidianOps (talk) 02:48, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Duane working for Dave?

I've added a "perhaps" to the last sentence where Duane was said to be working for Dave. I'm not American, but it is my understanding that former presidents and first ladies get secret service protection for life. It seems to me to be just as likely that Duane became the agent assigned to protect Mrs. Mitchell and that he was with her. While we didn't see Duane enter the building with Mrs. Mitchell, he could have entered after the camera left the entrance. The Masquerader

The Katherine Cecil Thurston novel “The Masquerader”, adapted for the stage and twice filmed, notably as a talkie with Ronald Coleman, about a look-alike brother who steps into the shoes of his addict British MP sibling, winning back respect of his brother’s colleagues, and the love of his wife, is strikingly similar to the plot and themes in “Dave”; is there any information if the later movie was influenced by, or an update of the earlier works? Why no discussion of "Double Star"?

The plot to this movie is incredibly close to the Heinlein Novelette "Double Star", so I'm a bit surprised there is no discussion of this. Doug (talk) 01:24, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Fix minor errors in the "Plot" Summary for Dave (1993 film)

For what it's worth 2 Corrections need to be made for the 1993 political satire film Dave starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver.

1) Dave Kovic's Employment Agency and home was in a non descript small town in the Pacific Northwest (either the state of Washington or Oregon).

2) It was Dave's "BROTHER-IN-LAW" (from Dave's deceased wife) Not "FRIEND" Murray that helps him secure the funding for the homeless shelters.
