Infobox stats
[edit]I added a footnote, thinking Alfmaster had included Ipswich's 2 playoff matches in 2002, as there were 2 more apps than the stats offered by soccerbase.com. I have since realised that Bent played a total of 4 playoff matches, so I've changed my edit to reflect soccerbase.com's figures, which don't include playoff games as league games. sʟυмɢυм • т • c 20:34, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
the goal stats are incredibly vague. i came to see how many goals he's got in each season at charlton instead i'm given a collative total. someone please fix thing.
Using Spurs "fan site" as a source will be deleted.
Payment
[edit]Is there any truth in Spurs paying Charlton the money in installments over three years?
I have never read anywhere but on here that the fee for Darren Bent was £22.5 million. Everything else I have ever read has suggested the fee was £16 million. Any idea where this information comes from? Doctor Puss (talk) 14:21, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've changed it to what the cited source says, which is £16.5m. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:00, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
GA review comments
[edit]Well, here we go...
- Lead is three paras, too long for the rest of the article. I'd just have one intro para which discusses his club progress and one following para which describes his international career.
- Done Merged paragraphs. Mattythewhite 19:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- "under-21" vs "U21" - be consistent.
- It seems to be the standard to include only "U21" in the infobox. Mattythewhite 19:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- In date ranges, I prefer to drop the century, so in the infobox, 2001–2005 would become 2001–05.
- Done Shortened. Mattythewhite 19:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- Numbers below 10 should be written out (e.g. eight goals).
- Done Done. Mattythewhite 19:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- "Bent is the product..." - probably best to rewrite in the past tense, so state when Bent joined ITFC academy and write as a past event.
- Done Rewritten. Mattythewhite 19:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- "he reached the semi-final..." - no, the team did. Presumably he played in it?
- Done Rewritten. Mattythewhite 15:57, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "..crucial winner..." - NPOV please.
- Done Removed "crucial". Mattythewhite 15:57, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Link Slovan Liberec, UEFA cup.
- Done Links added. Mattythewhite 15:57, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's possible to expand his Ipswich career beyond the single paragraph.
- Done Expanded. Mattythewhite 17:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "...but could rise to..." odd tense issue again, and the follow-on makes this read very strangely.
- Done Rewritten. Mattythewhite 16:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Prose is choppy in the Charlton section, lots of short sentences, it needs a copyedit.
- Done Done some copyediting. Mattythewhite 16:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "...rejected speculation his side were planning to sign Bent..." - it would be the club, not his side, or maybe even Jol himself.
- Done Rewritten. Mattythewhite 16:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "....which will be payable over three years and is inclusive of add on ..." - tenses again.
- Done Changed tense. Mattythewhite 17:14, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "...for this deal." - reads odd.
- Done Removed. Mattythewhite 16:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- International section needs reflowing, there are too many short paragraphs.
- Done Merged paragraphs. Mattythewhite 16:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "He was then called into the full England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland." needs citation.
- Done Removed. Mattythewhite 16:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "On May 8, 2006, Bent was omitted from England's World Cup squad. Since, he has been a regular in the England squad, but has only played one more game. As of 2007 he has played 2 games, scoring no goals" needs citation.
- Done Added sources and removed one comment. Mattythewhite 16:59, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- "He appeared as a late substitute but missed arguably England's best chance to secure the point needed to progress." - original research warning.
- Done Has been changed since, but removed that as still unsourced. Mattythewhite 16:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Career stats correct as of end of July 2007? It's now December...
- Done Updated. Mattythewhite 16:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- It appears Bent never came on as a sub for anyone before Spurs according to the table. Is that correct?
- Done Made consistent. Mattythewhite 16:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'd move the personal life section, since all but the one-night stand is about pre-professional life. And is the one-night stand really notable?
- Done Moved and removed one-night stand. Mattythewhite 17:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I hate the sucbox, if the info is in the article, that should be enough. It isn't relevant to Bent who was POTY before or after him.
- Done Removed. Mattythewhite 16:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
So, that's it for now. I'll put it on hold. Let me know if you want to discuss anything or when you'd like a re-review. The Rambling Man 18:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
More GA
[edit]Much better, couple more things..
- In the lead you mention his debut and record at u-21 level but not his full international debut.
- Done Added. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- "...age of fourteen, after considering ..." no need for comma.
- Done Removed. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- "He scored his first FA Premier League goal on April 24, 2002 in a 1–0 win over Middlesbrough, but the 2001–02 season ended in relegation for Ipswich." - still not a logical sentence, he scored a goal but the season ended in relegation?
- Done Expanded sentence. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- "The 2003–04 season finished with Bent scoring 16 goals, which was followed by 19 goals in the 2004–05 season, which made him the team's second highest goalscorer for the season." has "season" three times.
- Done Shortened. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- "On the opening day of the 2005–06 FA Premier League season, Bent scored two goals on his Charlton debut against Sunderland.[12] He was named the Premiership player of the month for August." - flow ",[12] and was named..."
- Done Merged. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- "20% of Charlton's profit." - suggest "...profit on his sale." or similar. Town didn't get 20% of Charlton's whole profit!
- Done Clarified, I think. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- International section still doesn't really flow. Lots of short choppy sentences.
- Done Copyedited - any good now? Mattythewhite (talk) 17:57, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Specifically, though, you say "as of 2007 he has played two games.." infobox says three.
- Done Updated. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:57, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Definitely getting there but these need sorting. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- All good now so I'm happy to promote. Please try to keep an eye on the article and update it accordingly to keep its status as GA! The Rambling Man (talk) 09:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Goal total
[edit]Spurs Website Juande:Important win claims Bent has 100 career goals, but figures don't stack up. 37 with Ipswich, 55 with Charlton, 5 up to 8 march 2008 + 1 he scored against WHU as per article, only gets to 98. Anyone know where the other 2 goals are? penalties in shootouts? playoff matches? --ClubOranje (talk) 22:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Also, the commentator on my live video feed also said "finally he has his 100th, he's been on 99 for a long time" or words to that effect--ClubOranje (talk) 23:23, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Shooting
[edit]His shooting of a 12 year old caused controversy at the time, considering he was 18 and an Ipswich first team player. Why was this section removed? Once again the wiki fascist editors know nothing. If you google it, or ask any Ipswich fans you will find out this is 100% true and a notable story for this article, not many young pro- players shoot 12 year old kids do they? I remember the away fans chant even today "hes quick, hes black, he shoot kids in the back... Darren Bent.... Darren Bent." Transfer
[edit]the claim that manchester city made an offer on the 17th jan 2011 for bent. the reference cited (the bbc sport website) makes no reference to manchester city making a bid and the claim should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.200.143.32 (talk) 15:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- indeed, and it has been. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 15:55, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Appearances for Aston Villa
[edit]Darren Bent's number of league appearances for Aston Villa is 5, but his total Aston Villa appearances is only 4. 175.138.111.15 (talk) 10:30, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Premier League vs Soccerbase
[edit]I notice that certain information in the infobox has been drawn from Soccerbase. Soccerbase is a betting site, so I think the Premier League would be preferable for sourcing information. Michael Glass (talk) 03:51, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
