Genre
[edit]Melodic death metal? Hm... They're more thrash.
- I believe they're approximately 40% Thrash metal, and whether the rest of their music is Melodic death metal or simply Death metal is a somewhat ambiguous issue. Listening to their music and considering their peers in either genre, it makes the most sense to label them melodic death metal. Their music usually contains fairly epic guitar solos played mostly at a medium speed. The presence of synthesizers and how they're played is characteristic of melodic death metal too. This is Wikipedia's current description of death metal:
It seems Darkane is interspersed with everything in that description, then melody and an intermediate thrash treatement. The melodic death metal subgenre should be our first choice, followed by thrash metal. Whether thrash is the prevailing genre or not is a good debate for this band. I opine it less than bisects their discography.Death metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal. It typically employs fast tempos, heavily distorted guitars, deep growling vocals, morbid lyrics, blast beat drumming, and complex song structures with multiple tempo changes.
- You're forgetting most of the riffs are thrash metal, whether they use synthesizers or play epic solos who gives a s**t ? Their choruses tend to be melodic yes, but really.. doh. Oh harsh vocals, so they must be death metal? Nope. But I agree some of their work could get co-classified as melodeath. Anyway, point is they're mainly thrash.GamlaSonn (talk) 19:04, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure crediting them as 40% thrash doesn't count as forgetting about thrash. The death label is of course derived from more than vocals in this instance. As one can imagine, vocal themes do not often manifest without instrumental accommodation and vice versa. Many aspects of Darkane have come from an evolution of what was previously established as purebred thrash, but it seems to a greater extent their signature sound is derived from death, including various guitar effects which lace said thrash riffs. --Pixel Eater (talk) 12:48, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Besides all of this, it's funny that to verify Darkane as "death metal", this article cited encyclopaedia metallum, which has itself decided to go with melodic. --Pixel Eater (talk) 04:08, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
New Album 2010
[edit]From the news page on their official website (darkane.com):
Metalheads! 05 Apr. 2010 Darkane are writing new material and at the same time building our new studio from scratch. We've found a great place in an old Slaughter house. Photos from the studio building will be up soon. We aim to record our sixth album during the upcoming summer. ...
Please find a source to quote regarding the upcoming album, perhaps if they do an interview, or some such, regarding it. It would be great to have some new material out of these guys!! 75.102.11.99 (talk) 00:00, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
