Oramics
[edit]It appears to be a quite widely held fallacy that the Oramics graphics composition machine was developed during Oram's time at the BBC. The development of the machine did not commence until after Oram received her first grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation in 1962. It was not finally realised until around 1966, the year after she received her second Gulbenkian grant. The earliest surviving recordings of compositions employing Oramics drawn sound date from 1968.
See for example, Davies(2003) http://www.sonicartsnetwork.org/Oram/oram.html Hutton(2000) http://www.sonicartsnetwork.org/ARTICLES/ARTICLE2000JoHutton.html and text in the booklet accompanying the Paradigm Discs anthology of her work: http://www.stalk.net/paradigm/pd21.html
The following erroneous text has been removed from the article:-
During her time at the Radiophonic Workshop in 1958 she produced a novel music synthesizer using her "Oramics" technique. It was similar to Yevgeny Sholpo's "Variophone" and used drawings on 35mm film strips to control the sound produced.

Infobox
[edit]I've added a "musical artist" infobox with colour set as "non_performing_personnel", to reflect composer/producer/engineer positions. I wasn't really sure which colour should be used but I thought this was probably most accurate.--Thetriangleguy 18:36, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
