Page name

[edit]

Although he started his Major League career as an outfielder, its unclear if the current name is the ideal. Most of his minor league career was spent at third base (source). He recently asked to move to second base because he had no chance of playing for the Mets at third base (David Wright). Any suggestions? --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:31, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Tony Bernazard asked him if he would switch to second. (source) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.18.240.238 (talk) 02:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]

I changed the Photo because the previous photo shows him in the number 3. maybe spring training or in the minors. i think this is better. Also, it shows his face —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.47.93.233 (talk) 00:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a better photo. But what's with licensing? It doesn't look so kosher. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 02:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. sorry. I changed it to a pic that my friend took. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mgmets5 (talkcontribs) 00:39, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rename?

[edit]

Since Murphy is now a first baseman, should the article be renamed now? Richiekim (talk) 13:32, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the article should now be renamed. He played very little in the outfield throughout his professional baseball career. A few dozen games in the outfield should not be enough for putting outfield in the article name. Placing New York Mets in the parentheses seems to be the best idea for now, until he settles into some sort of permanence in one position.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 03:13, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You said that it's going to be Daniel Murphy (New York Mets) but right now it's Daniel Murphy (baseball). But as you see, there are many baseballers in history with the name Daniel Murphy. I say we change it to Daniel Murphy (First Base). This is because, Jerry Manuel said that Murph has played his last game as an outfielder, and that he is now a first baseman. --Mgmets5 (talk) 22:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it to "(New York Mets)" but someone moved it to "(Baseball)", which was then moved to "(baseball)". The current name doesn't make too much sense because there are other Daniel Murphy's that were baseball players. If it's not gonna be "(New York Mets)" it should atleast be "(first baseman)". --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 23:26, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
None of the other Daniels were known by "Daniel", though. All their articles are "Danny Murphy (x)". It's no different than having both Eddie Plank and Ed Plank, or or any number of other such combination. -Dewelar (talk) 14:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have heard it as Dan, Daniel, and Danny. So, yes it's Daniel Murphy, but also Danny and Dan. --24.47.93.233 (talk) 01:26, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Batting Music

[edit]

In the article, it says "His batting walk-up songs are "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys (because of Daniel's last name...." Now, im sure thats a good reason, but has it been proven? I mean i havent heard that, and it isnt cited so we dont really have proof that it is because of his last name. I have heard a few things including one about his rivalry with the Paplebon's. I didnt want to change it without getting some input. my suggestion is to just remove the "because of Daniel's last name" part. --Mgmets5 (talk) 22:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

American Hero?

[edit]

Can someone please edit out the numerous references to him being an "American Hero?" While being paid millions to play a boy's game well is nice, let's reserve that title for Medal of Honor winners, shall we? -- JD
