[edit]Are there any sources that say he was ordained an Apostle? The Church Almanac (2004 edition) says that he was set apart as 2nd counselor to Pres. Young, and then sustained as a counselor to teh Twelve Apostles." I don't think that automatically means he was ever really ordained an Apostle.Isaac Crumm 05:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I believe he was ordained. I once made a list of all latter-day apostles, and he is on the list, and I remember verifying each one. I'll try to dig up a source. Kingsfold (talk) 19:07, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, he was ordained. Go here, which is a Google book of Heber J. Grant's Essentials in Church History. That should settle it.... Kingsfold (talk) 21:27, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
"Wells defended the city and fought as a Lieutenant General of the Nauvoo Legion"
[edit]I'll check on this as well, but I don't think this is true. I've read all 7 volumes of History of the Church, and remember reading that the Nauvoo charter was written installing Joseph Smith as Lieutenant General, in part because there were no other Lieutenant Generals in the state of Illinois. Perhaps it was after Smith was killed? Kingsfold (talk) 13:18, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- This reference asserts that he was a brigadier general (1-star) in the Battle of Nauvoo, and this one says that he was later elected as Lieutenant General of the (albeit foreignly named) Nauvoo Legion in Utah Territory in 1852-- if you scroll down, there's a facsimile of the certificate. Looks like the wording on that paragraph needs to be revised a little. Thanks. Kingsfold (talk) 18:58, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
