1 feb 07 Dallas Cowboys article has been heavily vandilised, needs attention.
An anon user has created an article on Michael Irvin. I've wikified it, but it needs attention from someone who knows the team/player. Elde 02:34, 1 Feb 2004 (UTC)
As a resident of Arlington, It offends me that Arlington is referred to as a suburb of Dallas when it is clearly not. Arlington does not border Dallas and isn't even in Dallas county. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zammy63 (talk • contribs) 21:29, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
they don't have the most wins in the 1990's. For 1990-1999, Cowboys: 101 regular season wins + 12 playoff wins, 49ers: 113 regular season wins + 9 playoff wins. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itishardtofindausername (talk • contribs) 05:50, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
No one stated they did..(mo wins in 90's...but they sure dominated the snot out of it for a while! So get over it! LOL
I also have ask and point out, why is it people have to add in other teams accomplishments when listing the cowboys accomplishments in Dallas Cowboys article?! Such as repeatedly tagging what must be their teams feats after a statement about cowoys firsts and records? Such as ..."Cowboys became the first team to win 3 superbowls in 4 years....a feat only duplicated by the patriots...."who cares what the pats did save it for the pats artiel. This is an article about the cowboys, not the other teams! Its a backdoor vandalism in my view. Also who cares who did it second? Fist is first. It amazes me the jealousy other fans have of this team, some of them are admins here. I see what are clearly pats giants and vikings fans controlling the NFL article pages and they keep marking up cowboys pages with comments the play up their team and try to omit or downplay the accomplishmens of the cowboys. So lets remove the res to the other teams unless its about some victory over them. That should be the same rule of thumb for all the articles about the teams, make it about them and them alone! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.134.124 (talk) 01:41, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Calling all future sports writers... Due to the burgeoning new staff additions this offseason, this section is full of coaches without articles. So head over to Pro Football Reference and compose an original paragraph or two... let's show the new Cowboys crew some Wikipedia love. (J.A.McCoy 02:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC))
the diffent Dallas Cowboys jerseys
I deleted the following phrase from a previous version of this article: "Opposing teams sometimes intentionally wear their white jerseys when playing the Cowboys at home (when they do not do so normally) in order to force the Cowboys to utilize this latter jersey."
As far as I know, according to NFL rules, the home team always chooses which jersey they will wear, and the visiting team has to put on the opposite. (Zzyzx11 02:31, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC))
- In reference to this, I believe the passage merely needs to be cleaned. Most teams wear a colored jersey at home and a white jersey on the road. When playing the Cowboys, many teams will wear white at home to force the Cowboys to wear their "road blues". In most instances, the Cowboys will wear white (when able).--129.118.249.239 12:38, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
The reason the Cowboys don't often wear their "road blues" is those jerseys (at least during the 60's & 70's) are/were considered to be "bad luck."
Here's the story of the jerseys: Prior to the beginning of the NFL season, each home team must choose the uniform they will wear for each home game, so the visiting team can plan accordingly, and this selection takes place soon after the schedules are announced in the spring. Cowboys management in the 1960s thought it would be a novel idea if they wore their white jerseys at home, so Dallas fans could see visiting teams wear their home (usually dark) uniforms in Dallas. Because most NFL teams wear dark jerseys at home, this meant that Dallas wore white most, if not all, of the season and players were comfortable wearing white when they were the visiting team. Since part of the advantage of being at home is to make the visiting team nervous, other NFC East teams tried (and still try) to get an edge on the Cowboys by forcing them to wear their dark blue jerseys when Dallas plays those teams in their home stadiums. It's not _really_ bad luck when they wear the dark jerseys - it's more an effort of the other teams to throw the Cowboys out of their comfort zone. ddlamb 04:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- If anybody can find credible sources to cite to verify when they started wearing white at home, the reason why, and the supersition that the blue jerseys are jinxed, it will be appreciated. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:42, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
You're not going to find a source to cite for this, it was just a fan thing and a commentator thing back in the '70s. It's kind of impossible to qualify as well as quantify a jinx. It was well known at the time though. Being a fan myself, I remember when I was a kid in the '70s and I hated seeing the Cowboys wearing their blues. Eventhough I thought they looked cool I bought into the jinx when I was a kid.
- a win-loss record by jersey type would be nice too, if such a thing exists. Simishag 03:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Cheerleaders
Nothing here about the famous cheerleaders? PedanticallySpeaking 16:22, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
- I created an article for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I added a "See also" section. I looked, and couldn't see any place it could be worked into the main body. --rob 09:09, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Not to be forgotten - suggestions
There are some really questionable players on the Not to be forgotten list, such as Quincy Carter and Joey Galloway. I just wanted to post a request for comments before removing them. Thanks.
PS: Half-joking and half-serious, I would love to add George Teague - even though he only played 4 yrs for us. He was the only Cowboy to defend the Star that day T.O. disrespected it.
- I agree, Carter and Galloway never did crap for us, so they don't belong on the list. I too would like to see Teague on there though, since that one action of blasting B.O. gave him more Cowboys immortality than some people that have played 10 years with the team, as evidenced by the fact that we're still talking about him here. I say, go with all the changes you mentioned.Tommstein 07:27, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Quincy Carter was the first quarterback to take the boys to a playoff game since Troy Aikman. So, "never did crap for us" is an understatement. cerebralshrike 09:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think that players on "Not to be forgotten" should address players not fully covered in the main article, personally. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 10:11, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
I added Harvey Martin and Charlie Waters, two glaring oversights. If Cliff Harris is here, Waters needs to be here too, and I can't believe a Super Bowl XII co-MVP like Martin (with White) isn't anywhere on this list or in this article. Preston Pearson, Bob Breunig, and Butch Johnson deserve consideration also. On the other hand, at least Drew Pearson is here already; in this fan's opinion he deserves to be in ROH before Irvin. (Not _instead_ of Irvin - just before.) ddlamb 05:03, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
I updated and added biographies for a few players, plan to do more. I don't really like the fact that our Hall of Famers and "not forgotten" players are listed on the main page, but our Ring of Honor recipients are not. I had a hard time finding the link to the ROH page, so I tried to punch it up a bit. Hope I didn't step on anyone's toes. --Timdstone 16:01, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
I put together my list of suggestions and think maybe there should be a "Other noteworthy players" section. Cornell Green DB (4 time All Pro/5 time Pro Bowler at 2 positions!) Dexter Coakley LB (All Pro 99, 2 time Pro Bowler) Bob Breunig LB (3 time Pro Bowler) Frank Clarke WR (All Pro 64, first DC 1000 yd. receiver) Preston Pearson RB (NFL's 1st 3rd down specialist) Efren Herrera K (Cowboy's 1st All Pro/Pro Bowl Kicker) Rafeal Septien K (easily Cowboy's greatest kicker) Dave Manders C (first Cowboy O-Lineman in Pro Bowl) John Niland G (6 Pro Bowls) Ralph Neely T (2 Pro Bowls/4 time All Pro) Pat Donavan T (4 Pro Bowls) Herb Scott G (3 Pro Bowls/3 time All Pro) Then there here are some "other notables" Craig Morton QB Already has wiki bio as does Gary Hogeboom I'd move Alonzo Highsmith into this category --Timdstone 16:53, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Is Fred Strickland's Cowboy career notable enough to be mentioned here? --Timdstone 03:14, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Fan club sites
Is it really appropriate to put a bunch of independent fan club sites in the external links section? I would think this should be limited to the club's site and other "official" pages. Simishag 01:59, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- The policy on external links can be found on Wikipedia:External links. Fan sites are listed under "Maybe OK to add". Zzyzx11 (Talk) 02:41, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Conspiracy Theories
I just put up a section on the supposed anti-Dallas bias in the HoF. It's my first Wikipedia post, let me know what you guys think. I thought it was an appropriate note. Maybe it should be moved to the "Not Forgotten" section? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bobsagat (talk • contribs) .
- I really don't understand what you're trying to convey here that every football fan doesn't feel about his/her team. Everyone claims bias. Everyone claims "home cooking". The team with the most amount ofg players in the HoF will still say that's not enough.
- You write: The most notable among the three is Pearson, who has campaigned to raise awareness in NFL circles about the supposed Anti-Cowboys prejudice. This is interesting, but where's the proof? I Googled around and couldn't find much. Plus, how impartial is a Dallas Cowboys who is not in the Hall going to be? If we could find some non-Cowboys players/workers, then maybe we'll have something. Jennifer 22:54, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- There are no sources, so I am going to remove that paragraph. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:42, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

How about "Notable Moments"?
Well, first and formost, the Dallas Cowboys suck!
Because let's face it, fans - any Cowboys fan w/i the last ten years practically hold our hands over our hearts when George Teague is mentioned. We can argue if he's a NTBF candidate, but he's certainly a favorite.
Other suggestions: Leon Lett showboatting during Super Bowl XXVII, Jason Chris Boniol and his golden foot (7 field goals in a single game!- Billy Cundiff would match it) and...SCORING! IN! THE! SNOW! (gets all teary-eyed) Rattlerbrat 15:04, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- It seems that the addition you made suffers the same problem that National Football League lore#Honorable mentions and Super Bowl#Notable Super Bowl games suffer: What is the criteria for choosing which notable games to include here without making it POV or original research? Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:17, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- You again. Why am I not surprised? Rattlerbrat 17:22, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well for one, as an admin on this site, I feel obligated that all of the rules and policies are followed, or else this site may suffer another incident like the John Seigenthaler Sr. Wikipedia biography controversy. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:30, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- OH NOEZ!! NOT AN ADMIN!!!!11111 I think I figured that out already. As for rules and policies, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if it broke a record, or made national headlines (such as Teague vs. Owens), or one play changed the outcome of the entire game - ESPECIALLY a playoff/championship game (Hail Mary passes, long field goal kicks, etc) then it's notable. Not good, not bad, simply notable. Not everything on that list is glorifying a Cowboys victory. The only one that doesn't fit that criteria is the "score in the snow" recap, which is more or less just a thing among Cowboys fans - I'm happy to remove it if it offends someone who isn't you. Or you can just do it yourself, for all I care.
BTW, it isn't lost on me that you didn't slap that cute little dispute template over the "not to be forgotten" part of this entry just because I didn't bother jumping through hoops over a silly picture. Rattlerbrat 17:41, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- You again. Why am I not surprised? Rattlerbrat 17:22, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
You exadurated a little on the effect of that ice storm against the dolphins, after all its not that much rare for an occurence like that to happen in Dallas in late fall. Are we forgetting we live in North Texas where cold weather is what happens in the winter, you sound like someone from florida whos never seen ice before.
Here's a notable moment that really SHOULD be added...
Dallas will lose their next 1000000 games in a semi since the current 12 team playoof format was adopted in 1990. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.62.209.10 (talk) 16:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
This is getting lonnnnng...
Is it time to start breaking this up into smaller articles, or is it okay as it is? If we can start breaking, I'd LOVE to have an article on the Dallas/Washington rivalry. I know we have our spats with other teams (Philly, NY, etc), but the Cowboys and the Redskins are the Hatfields/McCoys of football! OH SNAP WE ALREADY HAVE ONE!! Jennifer 07:05, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hatfield and McCoy's of football? Well since the Hatfields and McCoys are Steeler fans (West Virgina has 13 Steeler stations) I think the Browns/Steeler rivalry is a more apt comparison. :) just a word from someone that bleeds that ole' black and gold, nice Cowboys article by the way (boy I'm glad I'm a Steelers fan :P)Hholt01 08:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism
Not sure if this statement at the end of the first paragraph can be considered encyclopedic: "which is fucking awesome!" It may need to be deleted.
I just removed a few things in this article, a lot of the names had "blows" appended to them. Also, there was a line that said "Jerry Jones sucks T.O.'s cock." While I'm no Cowboys fan, I think this page could use one of those vandalism disclaimers.
I removed the claim to be the "best damn team ever", should this have a vandalism tag?--Patrickneil 19:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC) NO THE COWBOYS ARE THE BEST TEAM EVER.... THEY HAVE WON THE MOST SUPERBOWLS AND ARE COMING BACK TO POWER
I noticed that the whole page was deleted and replaced by, "WHO CARES ABOUT THE DALLAS COWBOYS!?!?!"--Ka-Ris
I agree about the Vandalism disclaimer, since the Cowboys are pretty much one of the most loved or hated teams in sports I think it's a site that will often get vandalised. I guess you could say that the Cowboys are an equivolent to the Yankees you either love them or hate them. One more thing I also added Larry Browns name to the list of players who made contributions that arent on in the Hall of Fame or the Ring of Honor. I figured he was such a pivotal player in Super Bowl XXX that he should be named. I also figured Teague was a big contributer and not only famous for what he did to Owens but also as a solid safety alongside Darren Woodson. ETod09 22:45, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Someone deleted the season by season record and put in its place: "DALLAS SUCKS!!! PERIOD!! NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEIR HISTORY! DALLAS SUCKS!" I'm not sure how to revert it so I would ask that someone else do it please. Looks like the vandalism is becoming a problem though.
Someone keeps trying to slip "tony homo" in where it reads Romo, most recently in the current roster. I fixed it. cerebralshrike 2:07, Feb 2007 (UTC)If you vanalize on the cowboys page you suck go cowboys
I just deleted "Dallas Cowboys are the worst team in the NFL" at the beginning. Jun 2007 Watermaren 15:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Although sophmoric and very telling of the person who wrote it, "Dallass Cowfags" is not an accepted moniker for the team. It is funny, but I would wager that Cowboy fans don't vandalize other sites. Probably because having another team's name on it is bad enough. It's good to be the king!

I added an unsourced tag as the article doesn't cite it's sources. Tayquan hollaHard work 12:42, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I have been making minor edits to the Tony Parrish article. It states:
Tony Parrish (born November 23, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an NFL player on the Dallas Cowboys.
He plays the strong safety position.
Should he not be included in this article as a present Dallas Cowboys player? Someone want to refer to the phrase 'strong safety' also?User:Brenont 16:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Blue Jersey Jinks
There are articles from Texas news sportspages in which they describe phone conversations and billboards put up by other NFC Eastern Division owners choosing to wear thier white jersey's at home making the Cowboys wear thier blue ones. As a lifetime Cowboy fan I believed (and still do) believe in the blue jersey jinks. This tho has been replaced by the Jones designed jersey jinks. This is the Thanksgiving Day jersey's designed by Jerry Jones with the big outline star designs on the shoulders. look at the Thanksgiving games played with this jersey. It is cursed, not to mention the ugliest jersey the Cowboys have ever worn. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.240.169.105 (talk) 13:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

After the 2008 season, the New York Giants have more playoff appearances than the Cowboys with 30. Please change the introductory section that states the Cowboys hold this record. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Locthebloke (talk • contribs) 03:06, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Playoff appearances vs post season appearances is one of the more confusing and self contradicting two stats the NFL produces. As of 2009, The cowboys sill have 56 post season appearances and the giants have 43. Which is a confusing stat when there is also a list within the NFL for number of playoff appearances. However one should note that the team that is often number one seeded team would go to LESS playoff games since they get a "bye" than a lower seeded team that also had made playoffs via vild cards. Talk:Cowboys Stadium nicknames
Need some people to help in the debate over putting a nickname of "Jerry's World" in the Wiki page for Cowboys Stadium.
I do NOT believe that it needs to be added there as nicknames for the stadium are already mentioned in the article itself.
"JerryWorld" first off not grammatically correct. If, and I mean if, it should stay then it needs to read as Jerry's World. However just because the infobox does not say official nickname does that mean we can put any nickname that someone has in there? I say do away with that line in the info box as it has been removed from the infoboxes of several other NFL teams' stadium pages.
I do not see Ford Field's nickname as "The Garage", the Georgia Dome as "The Bird Cage", Raymond James Stadium as "The New Sombrero" or "RayJay", University of Phoenix Stadium as "The Big Toaster", American Airlines Center as "The Hanger" or Minute Maid Park as "The Juice Box"
I do not see the Redskins referred to as "The Deadskins", or the Eagles as "The Filthydelphia Eggles" or Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs called "Air Head Stadium" where the "Chefs" play. Oh and I can find references to ALL of those nicknames. Just because you find something written doesn't make it true.
As I have stated nicknames are covered in the article, although only a few of the many I have heard, and that is where it should stay. If this needs to be open for discussion then that is the way to go and it should stay off the page until we have consensus. Fair enough?
I just checked the other 31 NFL teams Wiki pages for their stadiums. Of the 31 teams: 17 had no nickname or just the name of the stadium and 14 had some form of nickname. Of those 14 some were very debatable and should be challenged themselves.
Please add to the discussion if you would like to help.
Thank you, Bigcats lair (talk) 01:43, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Cowboys and New York Giants rivalry
Any recent cowboy fan will tell you the most heated rivalry as of recent is with the New York Giants (And of course Philly, but they are already listed). Especially since the Giants spoiled the Cowboys attempt at the Super Bowl in 2007. (After beating them all season). I listen to ESPN/Dallas all the time, and I hear them say every year that the players always get worked up the most over the Giants. I'm sure there are ESPN articles on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.74.245.228 (talk) 12:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Cowboy Joe & Mascots
Many hores forget about Cowboy Joe, one of the original logo/mascots for the team, as many of the teams at that time had similar cartoon characters. Maybe a section with a little information about Cowboy Joe and Rowdy, the current mascot, could be added.
While "Whistling Ray" doesn't qualify as a official mascot, I wonder if he isn't worth mentioning. Also Tommy Loy, whose trumpet solos of the National Anthem graced both the Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium for many years.

Statistics in sidebar are completely wrong
The side bar says the Cowboys have 5 superbowl titles. Isn't it 8? Likewise it says they won the superbowl in 1995. Isn't that also completely wrong, since the 49ers won? Similarly it doesn't mention many years where they did win. I am too lazy to fix this. Someone else do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.64.28.195 (talk) 15:41, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is correct. The Cowboys have 8 Super Bowl Appearances, but just 5 titles. Also, technically speaking, yes the 49ers won Super Bowl XXIX when that game was held in 1995, but that was the championship game for the 1994 season. Likewise, when the Cowboys played in Super Bowl XXX, held in January 1996, it was the culmination of the 1995 season. Yes, its somewhat confusing. Blame the NFL who insists on playing most of the season in fall and winter, but holding its playoffs and championship game in the January of the next calendar year. Also, I'm confused when you say "it doesn't mention many years where they did win" because the list appears right below the "Super Bowl Championships (5)" in the sidebar. Zzyzx11 (talk) 17:28, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Rivalries
As a Cowboy fan since the early 80's- I was surprised to see that neither the 49'ers or the Packers were listed as "rivals". The Cowboys-Packers rivalry was fundamental to the early day NFL when the Landry-led Cowboys and Lombardi-led Packers frequently squared off with championships on the line (most famously in "The Ice Bowl" perhaps the greatest NFL game ever). My feeling is that that rivalry persists today quite strongly- even if the Packers and Cowboys don't play every season (the two franchises are forever linked IMHO). In addition- it seems to me that Cowboys-49'ers was a huge part of the NFC power structure in the 70's, 80's and 90's with both teams clashing in the NFC Championship Game on several occasions (including the dramatic "The Catch" game in January '82).
Frankly- I would consider both the Packers and 49'ers bigger rivals- historically anyway- than the NY Giants. It seems to me for the most part that the Giants have been up when the Cowboys have been down and vice versa. I think the section should be edited with the rivalries in the following order: 1. Redskins; 2. Eagles; 3. Steelers; 4. 49'ers; 5. Packers; and 6. NY Giants. I know that's a lot of "rivals"- but the reality is there are a ton of teams throughout the leauge that consider the Cowboys big rivals IMHO.

I am requesting an edit for the 2012 season on the main page of the Dallas Cowboys wiki. There is an ESPN article linked saying that the Green Bay Packers were now considered "America's Team." This was an opinion piece and not an actual transferring of the nickname "America's Team."
The nickname "America's Team" was first established by NFL films for the Landry Era Cowboys and has become a part of the team in the ensuing decades. The article in question only establishes that Green Bay Packers are currently the most popular team and not that the nickname has been transferred to them.

The fact is:

- I just glanced through the history of the article for the past two years and did not find a 1970s section. Additionally, it was sometime during these last two years that a 1960s section was added. Without looking any further back I'm guessing that maybe there has never been a 1970s section. But yes, there should definitely be one. There's plenty of good information in the history article so hopefully someone will create this section. And obviously it is important given the considerable success the Cowboys enjoyed during that decade. It's a strange omission but such is the nature of Wikipedia -- someone has to actually volunteer to do the work. SQGibbon (talk) 23:36, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
I checked and you are right. In the oldest histories there is a 1970's. Someone must have taken it out. Also some points in time the article had to be protected from vandalism. Apparently the "America's Team" name offended someone or they just hated Landry and Staubach. D.P.G 03202013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.116.157.226 (talk) 04:34, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Please reinstate the 1970's
Maybe from pre 2008:
1970s
Throughout the 70's the cowboys had many struggles and many problems arose. The team was considered weak and sad. The
cheerleaders were called in to play in the remaining games of the season. Here is where the familiar phrase for the team "COWGIRLS" came from, this is a common term used today.
Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders
In the 1970s, the NFL underwent many changes as it absorbed the AFL and became a unified league, but the Cowboys also underwent many changes. Meredith and Perkins retired in 1969 and many new players were joining the organization, like Cliff Harris, Lee Roy Jordan, and Dan Reeves, plus Pro Football Hall of Famers Rayfield Wright, Mike Ditka, Herb Adderly and Roger Staubach. Led by quarterback Craig Morton, the Cowboys made it to their first Super Bowl, a mistake-filled Super Bowl V, where they lost 16-13 to the Baltimore Colts courtesy of a field goal by Colts' kicker Jim O'Brien with five seconds remaining in the contest.
The Cowboys moved from the Cotton Bowl to Texas Stadium in week six of the 1971 season, but Dallas stumbled out of the gate by going 4-3 in the first half of the season, including losses to the mediocre New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears. Landry named Staubach as the permanent starting quarterback to start the second half of the season, and Dallas was off and running. The Cowboys won their last seven regular season games before dispatching of the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs to return to the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl VI, behind an MVP performance from Staubach and 252 yards rushing, the Cowboys crushed the upstart Miami Dolphins, 24-3, to finally shake the moniker of "Next Year's Champions". That game remains the only Super Bowl where a team has held their opponent without a touchdown.
The Cowboys were now beginning to grow in popularity not just in Dallas, but nationwide. Their televised appearances on Thanksgiving Day games beginning in 1966 helped bring the Cowboys to a nationwide audience. Under Coach Landry, the so-called "Doomsday Defense" became a powerful and dominating force in the NFL and their offense was also exciting to watch.
The Cowboys faltered slightly in 1974, missing the playoffs for the first time in eight years. However, the Cowboys drafted well following the season, adding new legends like future Hall of Famer Randy White and Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson. The fresh influx of talent helped the Cowboys to Super Bowl X, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-17. But the Cowboys would again taste Super Bowl victory, defeating the Denver Broncos 27-10 in Super Bowl XII. Bob Ryan, an NFL films editor, would dub the Cowboys "America's Team" following this season, a nickname that has earned derision from non-Cowboys fans but has stuck through both good times and bad.
The glory days of the Cowboys in the 1970s were coming to an end. They would reach one final Super Bowl, Super Bowl XIII, losing once again at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers, 35-31, despite a last-minute effort by Staubach which failed. Staubach retired following the 1979 season. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.116.157.226 (talk) 04:49, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Request to add section covering Dallas' rivalry with Vikings, Rams
This is one of the most in depth, well written articles of an NFL team on Wikipedia. That said, despite an ample section covering Dallas' more well known rivalries (Redskins, 49ers, Eagles, etc.), there's a dearth of information on the Cowboys main playoff rivals: the Vikings and Rams.
Dallas has faced Minnesota seven times in the playoffs and L.A. eight times. A handful of these games determined the NFC Championship, and many are considered classic playoff contests (most notably, the Hail Mary game) If the two playoff meetings between Dallas and Pittsburgh (granted, they were both Super Bowls) deserved mentioning, shouldn't Cowboys-Vikings and Cowboys-Rams be worthy of the same coverage?
Thanks. -- BZA99 (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

- Not done. The NFC East division champion after the 1973 regular season was in fact the Cowboys. Both Dallas and Washington tied at 10-4 (remember that there were only 14 games back then), but the Cowboys won the tiebreaker.[1][2][3][4] On page 392 of the 2013 NFL Record and Fact Book, where it lists the 1973 regular season standings, it specifically says that "Dallas finished ahead of Washington based on better point differential in head-to-head games (13 points)".[5] The Redskins, on the other hand, got into that season's playoffs as a wild card (both teams would then be eliminated by the Vikings, who would then lose to the Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII at Rice Stadium in Houston, January 1974. I mention this just in case there is confusion with the 1972 regular season, when the Redskins did win the division that year, but in Super Bowl VII, played in January 1973, Washington became the final opponent in Dolphins' perfect season.) The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football franchise that plays...
In the context being used here, the correct wording is “The Dallas Cowboys is a professional sports team…” The reason is because it is referring to the organization, which is singular. When referring to a group of the players dallas cow girls (or a group of other members of the organization), “are” is correct, because it’s plural. As in “The Dallas Cowboys are taking the field.” To use the word are when referring to the organization would be the same as using plural for Roush Fenway Racing in NASCAR, for example. You wouldn’t say “Roush Fenway Racing are a racing team competing in NASCAR racing.” It would be “Roush Fenway Racing is a racing team competing in NASCAR racing.”
This change from plural to singular should be applied to all sports teams.
Pachacuti IV (talk) 22:45, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- That subject-verb agreement style that you suggest is debatable. If I do a simple Google test, for example, the phrase "dallas cowboys are a team"[6] seems to get more Google hits than "dallas cowboys is a team".[7] The subject, "Dallas Cowboys", is plural in American English, so the verb is normally plural, regardless of the context of rest of the clause.
- See also http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/plurals.htm#sports where it says:
- The names of sports teams, on the other hand, are treated as plurals, regardless of the form of that name. We would write that "The Yankees have signed a new third baseman" and "The Yankees are a great organization".
- Now if you have some authoritative evidence or style guide that contradicts that, I'm willing to listen. Otherwise, I'll rely on that source I just cited above, and several sports news sources who use "are" like Yahoo sports and bleacherreport.com. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:12, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

In the third paragraph of the "2000-09" section, the article reads that "wide receiver" Roy Williams was drafted prior to the 2002 season with the number 8th pick. That needs to be corrected to "Safety" Roy Williams. The wide receiver, Roy Williams, was drafted in 2004 by the Detroit Lions and did not join the Cowboys until the 2008. In that season, 2008, there were two players named Roy Williams on the same team. I was able to confirm this on both Roy Williams' Wikipedia pages. Thank you in advance.

Other than for their inaugural season, the Cowboys have always been in the Eastern Conference/Division despite being located in the Southwest. While this has certainly given rise to rivalries with the Eagles and Giants (the article already gives a good background to the Redskins rivalry) and will almost certainly never be changed now, why was this ever done to begin with and why is this not in the article currently? 2600:1004:B15E:EFD:CDD:8DC5:EF31:6331 (talk) 03:21, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

In the opening paragraph, it is stated that the Cowboys hold the NFL record for consecutive sellouts, which is not even close to being true - the Packers have sold out every game since 1959 while the Cowboys only EXIST since 1960... 80.178.222.176 (talk) 16:10, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?
For the most part I don't think much can be added at all. There could be more information on the players of each decade but that might possibly be redundant for the most part. Nobody probably looks to see who was on what team way back when. But who knows. The one section that might be left out would be reference to the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. They have their own Wikipedia page but I didn't see them mentioned. Jarrington30 (talk) 02:44, 6 February 2018 (UTC) Jacob Arrington (jarrington30)
I overlooked, there is a cheerleaders section and reference. However, I did notice that there is a Wikipedia page for Rowdy the mascot but did not see a reference to it. The mascot's name was named Big D before reaching the Dallas Cowboys. He made several appearances for the Team NFL Heroes league-wide program before being adopted as the official mascot of the Cowboys in 1966. Rowdy participates in every home game and a few of important road games along the way. [1] Jarrington30 (talk) 21:27, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Jacob Arrington (jarrington30)

This article needs a ton of work
For such an important topic, this article is appallingly bad. It's rambling and overlong, riddled with cruft that at best should be relocated to other articles and at worst has no business cluttering up an encyclopedia at all. Moreover, the writing is embarrassingly amateurish throughout, tainted by a tone that is neither neutral nor encyclopedic; the breathless hyperbole gives the impression of having been copied verbatim from fan-club sites and team press releases. Worst of all, vast swathes of verbiage are completely uncited. The sad thing is this probably could be an FA candidate if people put in the effort to make it shine. I'm willing to undertake a comprehensive rewrite, but I have to give fair warning that if I'm the one to do polish it up, many sections will be drastically pared back or outright eliminated. -- Nonstopdrivel (talk) 04:15, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Minnesota Vikings Rivalry
Hi all. I am a Vikings fan that just created the Cowboys-Vikings rivalry page and added some detail on the rivalry in the Cowboys page. I would appreciate any other additional content on that page and this one as it gets built out more. I think the rivalry is more akin to your rivalry with the Rams. It's not a toxic or heated rivalry like what Dallas has with the Eagles. But it is very historic and consequential from an NFC perspective; it is the Cowboys third most playoff opponent (7 games). But most interestingly, there is some lore with this rivalry that is unique (Hail Mary Pass, Herschel Walker Trade, Thanksgiving games are quite memorable). I appreciate any help I could get building that page out more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackmar1 (talk • contribs) 23:28, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
