[edit]I propose moving this page to dhalang. Since the concept is primarily Javanese, I feel that the Javanese spelling should be used ahead of the Indonesian version. Anyone against? Tim Byard-Jones 14:18, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's used for Balinese wayang too, right? How do they spell it? But, more generally, I've been meaning to bring up this issue at Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia/Naming conventions (there's even a section for spelling but nothing written there), so that there is a specific policy on how to spell these. Other articles that come to mind with this problem are Slenthem, Slentho, Kempyang and ketuk, Kendang, Bedug, Sindhen, and Gendhing. (As you can see from the article titles, we haven't worked out a consistent policy yet.) Rigadoun (talk) 18:18, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
I think it must be a Javanese loan in Balinese as this word was already attested in Old Javanese. And indeed, in Old Javanese it is spelled as ḍalang or dhalang in modern spelling. But anyway let's stick to the naming convention. Meursault2004 (talk) 01:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oops. I moved this article to Dhalang so I could make Dalang a disambiguation. Dalang, Sudan is a sizable town. I thought Dhalang would be a better title than "Dalang (puppeteer)". Then I saw this discussion. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:59, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Still a stub?
[edit]Much has been added to this article since it was stubbed. Is it still a stub? Wakedream (talk) 07:53, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think so, so I removed the tag and updated the WikiProject tags here. Rigadoun (talk) 06:18, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Picture of a dalang
[edit]Actually I doubt that this picture is of a real dalang. I think he is a local staff of the embassy who had to act as a puppeteer by the photographer :-) Meursault2004 (talk) 01:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's not a dalang Azmi1995 13:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
