As the film title refers to the serial number of the commanding officers aircraft it should be written as (aircraft manufacturer abbreviation) D.III 88/nn, where the 88 refers the the 88th D.III delivered that year and the ns denote the year of delivery for the particular aircraft. This was was the standard Idflieg format for serial numbers applied to aircraft.[1] Sources referring to Fokker Triplanes are mistaken as the serial would have been Fok Dr.1 88/nn.--Petebutt (talk) 07:03, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
