Talk:DVB-S2

"Unlike DVB-S, it does not rely on MPEG-2 encoding alone, but allows more advanced encoding, like H.264 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC) or VC-1."
The transmission standard (DVB-S) shouldn't specify anything else except the transmission of an MPEG2-Transport Stream. This transport stream could contain anythin from MPEG2 video/audio packets to MPE (IP data) or H.264, or anything else. H.264 can be transported with DVB-S1, DVB-C, DVB-T and of course DVB-S2, or even completly other way (ASI, on a harddisk, network, ...).
Is it possible to recieve DVB-S2 signals if we have the H.264 codec inplace ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kunaldeo (talk • contribs) 09:44, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Removed this text as it is not directly related to DVB-S2:
Together with the new modulation, the video codec used has also been changed from MPEG-2 to H.264 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC) and is therefore more bandwidth efficient.

I am wondering about calculation between symbol and data rates in dvb-s2. Standard dvb-s calculation is SR=(DR/(<modulationfactor>*FEC*188/204)) where reed solomon correction=188/204.

Where is the standard DVB-S used today? apart from a small reference, no block diagram, no explanation on theory of operation of QPSK, I believe we have gone too far ahead...
DVB-S
[edit]Where is the original article about DVB-S? Disappeared? This is just about DVB-S2, "(Redirected from DVB-S)" to DVB-S2? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.156.178.119 (talk) 19:13, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Renaming "DVB-H and DVB-SH" article back to "DVB-H"?
[edit]Please add your vote or comment to the discussion regarding the name of the "DVB-H and DVB-SH" article, previously named "DVB-H". See Talk:DVB-H_and_evolution_to_DVB-SH#Moving_back_to_DVB-H. Mange01 (talk) 09:48, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
DVB Project
[edit]There should be a Wikipedia article abiut the DVB Project - it is an important standardization body. Right now it lead to DVB and inside that there is a link to an external page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Neudorf (talk • contribs) 06:17, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- I agree there should be an article. Somebody has to write it, I guess. ;) Nageh (talk) 21:00, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
DVB-SNG
[edit]Someone removed the refrence to DVB-SNG - a news gathering stanmdard which I intended to add an article to, why???? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Neudorf (talk • contribs) 06:22, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- It did not seem that you were going to write an article about DVB-DSNG, so I removed the red link. If you do please feel free to reinsert the link. Nageh (talk) 20:59, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Beyond DVB-S2?
[edit]I have removed this section from the article because it is not directly relevant to DVB-S2 or DVB standards in general. Please consider integrating into other articles if appropriate. Nageh (talk) 20:55, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
DVB-S receiver
[edit]If I buy a satellite receiver that can receive MPEG-4/HD signals, is it sure this is a DVB-S2 receiver ?
Indeed I see (in Lyngsat website) that these types of signals can be emitted with old DVB-S systems ! See on Hotbird the signals 11075, 11137, 11373, 11471, 11541 and 12226 GHz...
