fake sources?

[edit]

can anyone confirm the existence of the sources used by the article's creator @Dnotob? I wonder if we're not dealing with AI slop. ping @S0091 since I saw your message on the user's talk page asking for an ISBN.

they're the following sources:

Garland, Phyl (2010). "The Southern Sound: DJ Spanish Fly's Influence on Hip-Hop". Hip-Hop Digest

Jones, Michael (2015). "How DJ Spanish Fly Shaped the Memphis Rap Scene". Southern Music Magazine.

Smith, John (2018). The History of Memphis Rap. Memphis: Bluff City Press.

(John Smith? Bluff City Press? sounds like a bluff...) GloBoy93 (talk) 03:29, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GloBoy93 Bluff City is a nickname for Memphis so plausible. However, I did Google search and check Worldcat before I asked Dnotob for ISBNs intending to add it myself but could not find anything. That's not to say it does not exist but, assuming it is a book, it suggests it is a hyper-local self-published book. Phyl Garland could be Phyllis T. Garland except she died in 2006. Hopefully Dnotob will provide additional information about these sources, S0091 (talk) 17:54, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
