[edit]I added the - very beautiful - picture from the German version, rewrote some of the text, kicked out the first list of winners because of redundancy and made some (minor) modifications to the table. Hope no one minds. --Emilio floris 16:37, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]The DFB uses "DFB Cup Men" and "DFB Cup" interchangebly on its website. Another spelling is nowhere to be found. Actually when the term "DFB Cup" is used the men's competition is always meant. As the website to be moved has a brief section about the women's competition, too, the name "DFB Cup" in my opinion is preferable as it is more often used than the more clunky term "DFB Cup Men".
Anyway the actual location of the site is in my opinion unacceptable as it is neither the official name nor is the official some arcane n-word term, nobody uses in practice (as with the old 'European Cup' for example). Also all the DFB Cup seasons are listed accordingly (p.e. DFB Cup 2007-08). It is really just confusing at the moment.

- Google:
- WP:COMMONNAME and WP:OFFICIALNAMES are unequivocal that we do not use names just because they are official. WP:UE says we use the name that is most common in English-language publications. It is clear from the above that not only is Pokal used in English, it is also used many times more frequently than cup. The policy and usage together clearly show that this move should not happen. Knepflerle (talk) 16:08, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't trust these Google-Fights. Similar entries yield very different results. What I find a lot more convincing is that the sources you cite are of major importance as far as I know (but I certainly don't know much here). Though I find it surprising, that the more natural 'Cup' is not used despite being the official name, I have to agree, the page should not be moved. Thanks, OdinFK (talk) 17:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- It is surprising, I agree. Usage may change over time though, we'll have to see in the future. English-language sources still use Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Coupe de France - there does seem to be a tradition for the indigenous names in European football competitions. Knepflerle (talk) 18:59, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
There seems to be a consensus to leave the page where it is, so I am de-listing this request from Wikipedia:Requested moves, it having passed the five-day mark. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. -GTBacchus(talk) 08:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely. It's a Pokal, not a "cup". That's an English imposition on the tournament. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:56, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Stamp
[edit]How exactly does a stamp depicting German soccer have anything to do with DFB-Porkal? It strikes me as an unnecessary and exploitive non sequitur and I bellieve it should be removed. Erikeltic (Talk) 21:02, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Giant killing
[edit]I think this section name is not appropriate. It is very suggestive of some terrible occurrence when in fact this is only about sporting upsets. I can't find a fitting name right now. Any suggestions? OdinFK (talk) 09:02, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- I was struggeling, too. I went and looked for an example, the FA Cup article uses Giant-killers as its section header. It seems to be the standard English football term. But any better suggestions are welcome. Another option would be to just delete the section, as I have requested for the associated article which caused an overproportional amount of controvesy.
