His name was Daniel Mallory Stephens. I believe the name "Dean" has been mistakenly written here because he rarely used his first name and was always referred to as "Mallory Stephens" or "D. Mallory Stephens." His maternal grandfather was Daniel Mallory, a Connecticut state senator, for which he was named.
