Students Section
[edit]I am having a difficult time understanding how the bit about the foreign exchange student from Australia is actually relevant? Can we please remove that? KioKrofov (talk) 17:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- It appears to have been part of a series of unconstructive edits made with the usernames Imdion, Dionim and Noidmi. I reverted those edits and left the one useful intermediate edit (718 Bot replaced the .GIF school crest image with a .PNG one) intact. --Oddharmonic (talk) 11:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Stricter Rules and Closed Campus
[edit](revision 115207108 moved to talk)
D'evelyn is also one of the more restrictive schools in the state, in that it does not allow hats indoors, gum, soda, or food of any kind. The administrators are particularly strict and the school has a closed campus. Students are not allowed outside of the building at any time from 7:30 to 2:30.
I do not see how this revision was relevant encyclopedic information about the school and not a mix of trivia and personal opinion. Student dress code (hats)[1], additions of code of conduct (gum, soda and food outside the cafeteria) and open/closed campus status are all decided by the individual school in addition to the district's established code of conduct. Please feel free to weigh in with your opinion on the article's content here on its talk page. -- Oddharmonic 07:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oddharmonic, I think at least the first two sentences are relevent. Just because school policy is determined by the schools individually and the district code dosen't mean that D'Evelyn's closed campus and somewhat stricter than average rules aren't signifigant and accurate information about the school. Fulvius 14:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think they would be more relevant in a section or subsection of the district article. In that context, D'Evelyn is notable as one of the stricter schools in the district. --Oddharmonic 02:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- I would not go as far to say they are one of the more stirct (being a student there myself), but the student mindset is to achieve better goals, and with that comes a non-controersial ban of gum(which you can chew in all classes except choir and band), the school's closed campas are not a problem because the lunch period is a half hour long, an dht enearest fast food place is a ten minute drive round trip, compared to chatfield's hour long lunch, and close proximity to Einstiens, Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. ---the student —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bdjake58 (talk • contribs) 21:00, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I moved the blockquoted selection in my initial comment in this thread to the talk page because it wasn't relevant to the article. It's not an issue at this point. (The chewing gum rule was in effect 10+ years ago when Fulvius and I were students there too.) --Oddharmonic (talk) 03:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Notable Alumni additions
[edit]I would suggest that both Laura Anderson and Justin Rogers be added to the list of notable alumni for their respective SAT and ACT scores of 1600 and 36, in the classes of '99 and '00, respectively. Justin's brother Colin Rogers is also quite notable for having placed second nationally in a MathCounts singles competition, but i'm not exactly sure on the format to use to add these entries. Fulvius 14:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Find a source to cite and have at it. The list item format I'm using on the page is:
*FirstName LastName '00 -- description of what makes them notable, perhaps adding where they are or what they are doing now. <ref>AuthorLastName, AuthorFirstName. "[http://www.foo.bar/baz.html Cited reference title]". ''Publication title'', Month 0000: p. 0.</ref>
- I don't know a source for the SAT and ACT scores, but Conner Rogers (not Colin) also scored a 36 on the ACT. This is the most reliable source I could find for the MathCounts competition: http://www.mathcounts.org/webarticles/articlefiles/47-NewsF02.pdf . Other possible alumni are Dave Welsh, guitarist for The Fray, who attended from 1997-2001, and Erik Pears, offensive tackle for the Denver Broncos, who attended junior high from 1994-1996. Neither graduated from D'Evelyn, so I'm not sure of their validity as alumni. Cobaro 01:47, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I think that Kevin Williams should be added to the noted alumni list for his talent in cross country and track and field. I could not however find a good source that showed his accomplishments well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.211.246.82 (talk) 19:54, 27 August 2008 UTC)
- It's okay to use multiple sources to better convey what an individual has done. While talent alone isn't notable, his achievements -- the Steinmark Award, the junior men's World Cross Country Championships -- are and easily sourced. Thanks for suggesting it here and feel free to jump in and edit. It would be nice if you created a Wikipedia username, but it's not a requirement. Be bold! --Oddharmonic (talk) 11:27, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
On 18 September 2008, a user with IP address 128.138.64.202 asserted that Kevin Williams transferred to Pomona High School, but provided no citations to back up that claim. If anyone has verifiable third-party sources asserting that he is not a D'Evelyn alumnus, please share them here. --Oddharmonic (talk) 07:44, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

This is in my opinion just a B. It is referenced and has alumni (not many...) a pic (more?) and a lot of useful information. You can get a further assessment at the schools project Victuallers 12:40, 12 April 2007 (UTC) |
