[edit]More information to be added about WWII service and later RAF when I have the time. KizzyB22

Improvement
[edit]I feel I can improve on the article with the information already there.
- Add Service Number to infobox.
- Add Units to infobox.
- Make links more understandable (instead of abbreviated).
Also adding WikiProject Aviation with the "B-Class" status completed (for someone else who knows what to look for and rate) to his Discussion page, I feel would be necessary. Adamdaley (talk) 09:39, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have added the service number but your are welcome to make any other improvements you think are required to improve the article. MilborneOne (talk) 10:56, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Done I've managed to do the changes to the Infobox and other abbreviated wording in the article, to a longer version with wikipedia links. Adamdaley (talk) 14:52, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
There are two things that have me thinking:
- He had a Service Number in the RAFVR (Service No. 810024).
- He was awarded the Bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) while he was in Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 243 Squadron. There is a Wikipedia page for No. 243 Squadron RAF in the years of 1941 — 1942 during the Battle of Singapore. He got his award on November 14, 1944.
Does anyone have the answers (or find information) to these two points? Adamdaley (talk) 14:52, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- An individual often has more than one service number normally one if they are an airman and a different one as an officer. Dont think is is an RAFVR thing, where did the 810024 come from? MilborneOne (talk) 15:11, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Just to add he was in the RAFVR for nearly all of his service as an officer so it could be 810024 is his number as an airman. MilborneOne (talk) 15:19, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yes found it the 810024 was his airman number and when as a Flight Sergeant he was commissioned as a emergency probation Pilot Officer he was given a new number 116515.[1] MilborneOne (talk) 15:23, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- The 243 Squadron article is just an unfinished article, it needs expanding to show the full history of the squadron. MilborneOne (talk) 15:11, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Just to add he was in the RAFVR not the squadron! MilborneOne (talk) 15:20, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Place of birth
[edit]I've just added some 'citations needed' marks to the statements about Bamberger having been born in Hyde, Cheshire as there seem to be conflicting reports - some sources state that he was born in Hyde, while others claim he was born in Port Sunlight, Merseyside. I've been trying to verify either of these claims but so far I haven't found anything substantial - searches mainly come up with the same couple of texts on lots of websites, so it's difficult to know where the information has actually come from. If anyone can find a reliable source to back up Bamberger's place of birth, that would be ideal. Until then, it seems sensible to indicate this lack of certainty to anyone reading the article. Thanks! Jammycaketin (talk) 15:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- The Times obituary already used in the article says he was born in Hyde which at the time was is in the Ashton-under-Lyne Registration District where his birth was registered in the second quarter of 1919 (search for Cyril Bamberger on http://www.freebmd.org.uk. A bit of original research shows his parents Francis Louis Bamberger and Ann nee Reynolds appear to have been married in the Ashton registration district as well.
