Merge?

[edit]

This page is basically a disambiguation page, but the page Cipher (disambiguation) also exists; should these pages be merged? B7T (talk) 02:45, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

it apperes it would be much simpler to simply merge the pages and not have to look on one page and then on another. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.215.223.223 (talk) 05:13, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do not merge: In the area of cryptology it is common to consistingly use cipher (=enc method) and ciphertext, and to avoid "cypher" which is related to the movie or lucifer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BeEs1 (talkcontribs) 18:09, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, no merge: Cypher has become it's only lexeme, with referents such as movies, and software products not associated with cryptology. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdmonroe (talkcontribs) 17:40, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

However: The term cypher is also used in the case of pipe organs, but the link is only on the disambiguation page for cipher. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.21.234.52 (talk) 18:25, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

merge:ive seen both pages. they appear similar and should be mergedUSERPAGE HERE (talk) 02:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do not merge: the only overlap in meaning is from the variation in spelling, which has been dropped from usage. The words are too dissimilar. Otherwise, consider merging Check and Cheque. SidKincaid (talk) 01:00, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate spelling wording

[edit]

I think it's misleading to use the "not to be confused with…" text when 'cypher' is a valid alternate spelling of 'cipher'. Is there a better template we can use? jameslucas (" " / +) 18:40, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a missing link to the corresponding article in the Spanish Wikipedia, here: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cifrado_(criptograf%C3%ADa) I cannot add it because it keeps giving me an error. MsTofucito (talk) 20:20, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
