Promotions after relegation of Rebellin
[edit]Occasional press releases show that Kolobvev has not yet received the bronze medal, but that should not be the premise on which we post results here. The IOC show silver as vacant and Cancellara as having bronze (confirmed using a search facility here). BUT the IOC requested the UCI to change the results, and the UCI did so. Rebellin's last course of appeal failed ([1] in French: link to English version misrouted), so it seems that the body who have been asked to determine the results have done so, and there is no further likelihood of that changing. It would appear that the IOC site has not caught up with events (note that it still shows Men's 1500m Gold from Beijing as vacant: suggesting that the site is simply not kept up to date very well), and if there is agreement that physical posession of the medal is not the issue, we would now be right in presenting Cancellara as 2nd and Kolobnev 3rd.
