[edit]I removed the cite tags from the Structure and Apparatus sections due to the sections not requiring citations. Full departmental structure is only available by official request from the department. Apparatus list is public information, though is incorrect on the Cy-Fair Department website.Dependentarising (talk) 18:56, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- WP:V - One of Wikipedia's core tenants is that information must be reliable. If "Full departmental structure is only available by official request from the department" then find a way to cite them, or ask them to publish this information so we can confirm it. Also if this is incorrect on the website, please ask CFVFD to change its information, or else we must take it as gospel (unless another reliable source contradicts that) WhisperToMe (talk) 22:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree with the information needing to remain reliable. The new Cy-Fair VFD website is based off of information that is not only grossly incorrect in some areas, but over a year-old in other areas (it was done by a private individual). When I originally wrote the article, the information (apparatus list, ambulance manning, etc) was not even published on any public place, including the Cy-Fair VFD website. Using a sole website as gospel for a particular subject is ineffective. Any person can make a website about something, even a volunteer fire department, and have the information entirely wrong. The same is true for Wikipedia. As for other sources of verification, CFVFD has made it a habit to try to remain out of the public's eye in the aspect of news articles and the articles that are there are few and far between. As for other information on the department, certain non-public and intra-departmental information is available with a Freedom of Information Act request (or its Texas equivalent). If something as simple as what apparatus is at which station is up for debate with my article, then the Houston FD article needs to be given a cite tag for its list of stations and station-area nicknames (e.g., Station 7 covering Midtown) because as according to the HFD website, all we can go by are the station numbers and addresses, not their area nicknames.Dependentarising (talk) 00:00, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- You said: "Using a sole website as gospel for a particular subject is ineffective. Any person can make a website about something, even a volunteer fire department, and have the information entirely wrong." - Which is why most websites made by private individuals do not pass WP:V and WP:RS - BUT if this website belongs to the fire department itself, i.e. it is maintained by a staff member of the fire department for the fire department's use, it should be taken as gospel. If the information on the official fire department site is wrong, the department needs to change the information to make it right. BTW the "nicknames" are painted on the Houston fire department vehicles, as you can see in the photographs I have taken of the fire stations. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:38, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
