Cuyen (Mapuche world)

[edit]

Cuyen is the moon goddess in Mapuche legends (mythology), wife of creator and sun god Nguenechen.

In the Mapuche legends moon goddess Cuyen has got no power but is helpless in several situations crying about what is doing her husband, sun god and main creator Nguenechen. Therefore Cuyen is crying sometimes and their tears are producing some of the lakes in the mountains of today's Argentina as e.g. Lacar lake and Lolog lake in the deluge legend of the two snakes Trentren and Caycay.
