Reserve currency
@MarginalCost: Reserve currency is what central banks hold, the content you removed is about both assets and liabilities (payments) made in dollars. "when virtually the entire globe uses the dollar to settle payments" - I don't think you should remove sourced content without reading and understanding the cited source.Dartslilly (talk) 02:46, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- This article is about currency substitution - when a country uses a foreign currency as their own in circulation. Your edit was not about this, but about the overall primacy of the US dollar. You are accusing me of not reading the cited source, but the cited source does not directly mention currency substitution, circulation, or even pegs once - though it does at several points get into reserve currency status. Your text would fit better in articles like International use of the U.S. dollar, or Reserve currency - which you are right is tied most closely to central bank holdings, but is also inextricable from transaction settlement, as existing content there already includes. This article, currency substitution, is about how circulating currency in a country changes, and is not specific to the US Dollar.
- I am not saying the material is incorrect, and I actually think some of it would be a welcome addition to International use of the U.S. dollar, perhaps in a new "Effects" section, but that is not what this article is about. MarginalCost (talk) 02:41, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
