During the summer months water temperature in the Crystal River (Michigan) seldom drops below 70 degrees. As a result, there are few trout in the river during the summer months, except in late August when rainbow trout, in particular, migrate downstream and out into Lake Michigan. The salmon spawning run in the fall can be spectacular, with steelhead mixed in; and the spring trout run also draws substantial numbers of fishermen. During the summer months, small mouth bass and northern pike are plentiful.

In 2008, breeding sea lamprey were observed in the Crystal River. --CedarTrough (talk) 21:08, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
