[edit]I don't remember any reference to "crystal knives" in any of the Dune books, so I edited out that bit; does someone have info justifying it? Willbyr 23:37, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- It just sounded like the obvious origin of the word to me. Worm teeth are made of crystal, and crysknives are made of worm teeth. Hence, crys(tal )knife. Then again, "crysknife" might also refer to the kris - but I think it's a coincidence. 220.237.67.125 09:46, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Do you happen to have a source for that info about their composition? That doesn't sound familiar at all. Willbyr 13:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
possible copyright and just plain wrong
[edit]What is this stuff about fixed/unfixed crysknifes and electromagnetic fields? I've checked the books (old not the new) and not come across this. Also the original books do not reference an electromagnetic field, they simply say that when the owner of a crysknife dies his crysknife turns to dust. Finally - it appears the electronic field info was lifted word for word from here: http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/content.asp?Bnum=520
- As the original author of this article, I resent the insinuation that I plagiarized the article's content. The website you linked is indeed the site that I used as a source, but the same information can be found in many other websites. Here are some links:

confusion
[edit]Hi Willbyr. I withdraw my comments. The definitions are consistent with what I found in the Dune Encyclopedia. I'll have to doublecheck the original books...
The crysknife is obviously related to the Jambiya. Insinuations that it is related to the kris are absurd as the kris is an Indian knife, the Jambiya is Middle Eastern. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.114.11 (talk) 12:50, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Herbert drew on all of Asia to create his oriental exotic vision of Dune. Besides, the way I imagined the knife reading the books looks just like a Kris, nothing like a Jambiya. Also the Kris is a spiritual artifact, like the Chrysknife, carried in the exact same way. Read the books. Think about it. Also bear in mind all things in the canonical Dune universe are "atavisms" of things in modern day societies (circa Herbert's life)--67.54.192.38 (talk) 04:19, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Breaking?
[edit]While it's likely a crysknife can be broken, I don't recall that ever actually happening in the books; certainly not by a dying Fremen stabbing a rock. To my memory a fixed crysknife is "paired" to it's owner, and disintigrates soon after their death. Kingadrock (talk) 18:52, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Japanese reference
[edit]The part about the crysknife not being sheathed until it draws blood sounds very similar to the legend of the swords made by Muramasa. Is there any information linking these two? 2001:5B0:28FF:EF0:0:0:0:3B (talk) 07:49, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
