Characteristics of feathers, classification
[edit]The controveries regarding this species are not adequately addressed in this article. In particular, this species is described in Norell M, Ji Q, Gao K, Yuan C, Zhao Y, Wang L (7 March 2002). "Palaeontology: 'modern' feathers on a non-avian dinosaur". Nature. 416 (6876): 36–7. PMID 11882883.{{cite journal}}
: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link) as having symmetical wings (indicating lack of flight)). If subsequent data has conclusively overturned the conclusions of the Nature article, this should be mentioned explicitly. Addtional citations should be given for many of the statements in this article, such as that this species may be a "junior synonym for Microraptor"

- Czerkas, in the paper naming Cryptovolans, disputes Norell's claim that the wing feathers are asymmetrical. Czerkas claims that feathers adjacent to the symmetrical ones pointed out by Norell are in fact asymmetrical, as are the feathers of the referred specimen. Sounds like the symmetrical feathers cited by Norell may have been secondaries or contour feathers, with asymmetrical primaries. Dinoguy2 (talk) 15:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
