Constitutional and Human/Civil Rights Aspects?
[edit]I would value a brief commentary on the Constitutional aspect of this in the United States, and perhaps Univeral Declaration aspects as they apply elsewhere.
It seems to me clear that US Administrations of both Democratic and Republican colouration have flown in the teeth of the Fourth Amendment, an important part of that contry's Bill of Rights. A paragraph or two on the Revolutionary roots of the Fourth might help stiffen a few American spines.
I don't know the UN Charter and Universal Declaration well enough to know what they have to say about current German, French, and European Community laws and regulations, but I would certainly like to. Of course part of the value of Wiki- and other encyclopedias is the resource they could become for making these principles readily available to the relevant bureaucrats of those and other nations.
The general proposition here is that if the terrorists scare us into giving up our freedoms, they have won, it seems to me.
Equally, authoritarians, whether of principle or of character weakness, tend to seize on any excuse to extend their stupidity over us all. This is an issue where their creepy tendencies become salient.
