Article badly needed: Origins of Regal crowns?
[edit]I cannot find in any of these articles information on the origin of the crown as a symbol of monarchs across Europe (and beyond?). This is a glaring omission, and is undoubtedly interesting history. Does anybody know? Dunlavin Green (talk) 20:23, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Other meaning
[edit]There is another meaning of the term Crown. In Polities which operate as Constitutional Monarchies ' The Crown ' actualy refers to all authority within the Polity. The Monarch or Sovereign is the personage authorised by the Polity or State to represent that authority . For instance the British Monarch can be removed by a simple Act of Parliament and is authorised by the Parliaments Act of Settlement to be the 'Sovereign'. In reality it is the State that is Sovereign . ( LEEJON 28 Aug 05 )
Disambiguation vs. "see also"
[edit]The purpose of a disambiguation page, according to Wikipedia:Disambiguation, is to guide the reader when a single 'word or phrase is the "natural" title of more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to different topics that share the same term or a similar term.' In short, we should ask ourselves, if a user types "crown" in the search box, what might they be looking for?
In keeping with this, I have deleted a variety of entries from this page that contain the word "crown" or a related term but where "Crown" by itself is not a "'natural' title" for an article about them. In other words, we should try to limit this page to persons, places, or things that someone might formally or informally refer to simply as "crown," "a crown", or "the crown." Even so limited, it is still a pretty long list! --Russ Blau (talk) 20:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- The length of a page is not so much a problem as lack of organization. If the page can be navigated easily, then it may be OK to be as helpful as possible in providing links. Cynwolfe (talk) 14:21, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
The object
[edit]I think this disamb misses the most obvious article / definition. I did not see the article either -- the crown as a physical object. If I find it I will put it there. --195.245.185.38 (talk) 09:16, 12 May 2008 (UTC) -- sorry I was not loged-in -- --BBird (talk) 09:16, 12 May 2008 (UTC) | Done --BBird (talk) 09:21, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Beauty pageant winners
[edit]When disambiguating crown for beauty pageant winners (which sticks in my craw in the first place) what is the guidance to deal with people who abdicate the crown? billinghurst (talk) 05:29, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- I am among those having no answer, not least bcz my first attempt (based on your insinuation that "dealing with" them is obviously problematic) at imagining a problem leads me to "I' gots nut'n". Can anyone enunciate a typical problem?

Overuse or wrong use of disambiguation page
[edit]There seems to be a misconception that this is a page for all links for the word 'Crown' and all foreign derivations of the word. That is not the purpose of a disambiguation page, see Wikipedia:Disambiguation. It is not an article page.
The purpose of a disambiguation page is to identify where the linked word, in this case 'crown' is be used and is ambiguous, and to help to then correctly relocate the link. In other words a temporary holding space. To which many of these links should be deleted, and a few should be placed into a ==See also==. For many it would seem to me that many of these links would better belong to something that is akin to Categorization, maybe something like [[Category:Articles with the word Crown. -- billinghurst (talk) 03:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see how any one of the current entries is preventing the reader from finding the 'crown' that they were searching for. Binksternet (talk) 06:04, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Restoration to disambiguation page
[edit]The Wikipedia page "Crown" is a Disambiguation Page. It is neither a dictionary page nor a catch-all for all things including the word "crown" or associated with the term in any way. Entries which have their own Wikipedia pages, demonstrating both individual initiative and consensus acceptance by the Wikipedia community of editors, have been retained on the list. Those which have not have been deleted. Any requiring disambiguation from other Wikipedia pages including the term crown may be added to the list when they have established a page of their own. - What about the surname Crown? Shouldn't it appear on this page? 209.117.8.178 (talk) 20:56, 29 January 2015 (UTC)HelenChicago
Disambiguation Change
[edit]So I organized the Disambiguation into the following sections
- Terminology, Dictionary, Synonym, Homonym, Linguists and General Navigation page.
- Subjects
- Resources
Section Currency: Krone and Krona are removed, because they are already repeated in their own disambiguation. Theoretically I should remove all of the Monarchy / Hierarchy and Buisness sections and Motor vehicles because they are type of crown for Monarchy, types of companies and list of products purpose. Those should be the responsibility of Navigational Templates. However, since the lists doesn't seem to have them, nor does any Templates exists, I keep them temporarily. Similar case is happening to Business Companies which is a major problem in Wikipedia. For I am not discussing any further.
If you are interested in helping that section, please notify them to WikiProject (Template Documentation, if it exists). Thanks --75.154.186.241 (talk) 06:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
writ not English
[edit]The page seemed not (there is a typo in my note in the edit history) written for or by native English speakers. "Crown" as currency is not a common contemporary usage in Anglophone countries and was given too much importance. Links that belonged under a "See also" header were placed near the top and in great confusion, with break lines that were unnecessary if links had been organized where they belonged. There is already a Wiktionary link, but I did leave (though rewritten) the definition, which is a little lengthy for a disambig page. Also, at least one important "crown" link (the term Triple Crown in sports, which has its own page) was omitted. I think I'll also add a hidden note suggesting that those editing the page review the whole page before throwing stuff in, which may have been the problem. Cynwolfe (talk) 14:17, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Crown drug
[edit]In the Library of Congress recordings, Jelly Roll Morton describes "crown" as a powdered drug, perhaps an inferior derivative of cocaine. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:31, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation, not "See also" or a finding aid
[edit]There seems to be confusion over the purpose of a disambiguation page. See Help:Disambiguation for an introduction.
It is not the purpose of this page to list every type of function of a crown, nor to differentiate. The sole purpose of a disambiguation page is to point to other pages where they are solely going to use the singular word "crown" presumably in a sentence, and then wikilink it. So, not with other adjectival matter like blah blah crown, that does not get disambiguated here, just the single word.
This page is not meant to be a finding aid. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:54, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
