[edit]I am uncomfortable with the description of this car given by the two sources: (Georgano, G.N. (1968). The Complete Encyclopedia of Motorcars, 1885 to present and Kimes, Beverly Rae (editor) and Clark, Henry Austin, jr., The Standard Catalogue of American Cars, 2nd Edition, Krause Publications, Iola WI 54990 (1985), ISBN 0-87341-111-0.
While a "side-entrance five-seater", as Georgano calls the bodywork of the car, can be interpreted as a conventional touring car, as Kimes does. From here, sources differ for this car:
Georgano calls it "the Crown"; Kimes the "Crown Four - 24 hp" Georgano mentions year of build 1905; Kimes 1905-1906 Georgano mentions a wheelbase of 8 ft 2 in (2,490 mm), Kimes 99 in (2,500 mm) Georgano mentions a "shaft drive", Kimes "bevel drive". Georgano mentions a friction drive transmission, Kimes planetary gear (friction for the 2-cylinder runabout)
Kimes makes no remark about the drive system used for it's successor, the 22/24 hp Two.
In this situation I decided to take what I found best of both. It is in no mean my intention to barrass someone. If I am in error, please revert...
