Timetable references
[edit]Frietjes With over 400 railway stations in New South Wales, each containing references to train timetables and most also bus timetables, the amount of maintenance to update this each time there is a timetable change is becoming a very big effort. I would think it would be possible to have a template with a possible name like “New South Wales transport timetables” which would contain an entry for each timetable possibly like:- Sydney Trains T4= <ref name=T4Timetable>[http://www.sydneytrains.info/timetables/pdf/Eastern_Suburbs_Illawarra.pdf T4 timetable] Sydney Trains 20 October 2013</ref> which would then be called from each station on that line so that only one change would be required for each line (or bus timetable) and all changes would be done in the template for each line instead of each timetable. One problem I see is that some stations have more than one reference to the timetable as shown in this Cronulla article and would require a subsequent <ref name=T4Timetable/> which may require a second entry. Or you may see another of way calling that with the short <ref> part of the original entry. Would you be able to assist in preparing such a template as I am still not quite sure how to start or code such a thing? Any help would be appreciated.Fleet Lists (talk) 09:16, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- Fleet Lists, the easiest solution would be to have the
<ref>...</ref>
generated by the article and what is inside the<ref>...</ref>
generated by the template. see the newly created Template:Cite New South Wales transport timetables. also, if you want to find all the pages which are using these external links, see this search. Frietjes (talk) 13:43, 20 May 2015 (UTC)- Frietjes Thank You - that is fantastic.Fleet Lists (talk) 22:53, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

- Mo7838Between Frietjes and myself we have set up a new template which will contain all timetable references so that they will only be defined once instead of in each station in which the timetable is used so that updating of the timetable references will only need to be done once instead of for every station. So far the template contains entries for Sydney Trains timetables, NSW Trainlink intercity timetables and Trandev routes used by Cronulla station so that Cronulla station could be set up as a prototype for this. There is still a problem as I see it with T1 and T2 timetables where there is more that one timetable for that identification - I will sort that out so we need to avoid using those for the moment. I hope to start to convert stations to the train ones only, as from next week while bus changes will follow once the references have been added to the template. NSW Trainlink regional timetables are also still to be added.Fleet Lists (talk) 07:23, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
