Deletion of this Section
[edit]I would not like to see this section deleted but would like to see it expanded upon and articulated clearly and concisely. The truth about what many of these mega so called pastors and teachers and their mega organizations are doing NEED to be held accountable for TRUTH TELLING and if they are not, then they need to be soundly rebuked and reproved and thoroughly exposed for what they are doing. Many organizations like the Seeker Sensitive/Church Growth/Purpose Driven® methods are ripping people off!!! It is tragic that they have been able to get away with it for so many years. It seems like the secular media are the only ones to expose the frauds in much of the so called church especially in the mega bucks business in the church!!! All their good works in all the world will not help them escape the wrath of God on Judgment Day because of Scripture Twisting and false teachings. Fides Viva 11:05, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- I don't like the megachurch movement either, but Wikipedia is not a place to hold churches or pastors or anything else accountable for their actions. Check out Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not (specifically the bit about "soapbox"). I'm not saying necessarily that it needs to be deleted, but the sentiments above won't get you far in making your case. Staecker 13:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying, I only wish I could write an article calmly and objectively and clearly. I do not want to sound like I am on a "soapbox" but there are issuses within the whole Megachurch empire that really trouble me and concern me. I believe truth is at stake and many of the megachurchs and their pastors are misleading people. I have found that several of the articles here on Wikipedia are basically nothing more than adverts for some of these pastors and their movements. Not neutral points of view at all. I find that frustrating. Oh that I was more educated and had experience in journalism or something. I did not do very well at school and left when I was fourteen and have had a very hard life, no one to blame but myself I suppose. I am not looking for sympathy. I cry alone! :( I see I am going to have to study more about how to use Wikipedia as in the link you gave among others about Wiki. Most of my contributions so far have been posting links to critiques, which I have thoroughly studied, some of them several times just to make sure they are ok and accurate. I actually haven't contributed to the actual articles themselves. Thanks for your comments. Fides Viva 15:03, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- One way that you can "strike back" at articles that you feel are unfair advertisements for certain megachurces is to tag them as not following Wikipedia's NPOV standards; however, if you do not also voice your concern rationally on the discussion page of these articles, the POV tag will quickly be removed.. Also, there are lots of links at the bottom of this page, surely you can cultivate a more coherent criticism from all of those. One does not need to be journalistic to create Wikipedia articles...if you make an article with simple, uncomplicated sentences then the community will eventually morph them into a higher standard.
