Slang use of "crib"

[edit]

Used in London and probably widely in England to mean a lodging place or place to sleep, and not referring to children. Example:
"Hears as Owen takes the chair at a crib in Bloomsbury. I don't think it be a harmonic meeting altogether. And Huxley hangs out in Jermyn Street". From a satirical pamphlet, "A Report of A SAD CASE, Recently tried before the Lord Mayor, OWEN versus HUXLEY, In which will be found fully given the Merits of the great Recent BONECASE. LONDON 1863". whorehouse

[edit]

A barebones shack or set of shacks, the lowest class form of whorehouse where the hooker doesn't last much more than a year for one reason or another. Referred to in East of Eden by John Steinbeck. 100.15.127.199 (talk) 02:13, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
