Soyuz TM / Soyuz TMA
[edit]"Soyuz TMA - Main article: Soyuz spacecraft - With the cancellation of the X-38 and CRV programs in 2001, it was clear that the interim use of Soyuz capsules would be a longer term necessity. To make them more compatible with the needs of the ISS, Energia was contracted to modify the standard Soyuz TM capsule to the TMA configuration." -- Neither this article nor Soyuz spacecraft define the meanings of the designations "Soyuz TM" and "Soyuz TMA". They presumably stand for something trivial, but that's not really obvious. Can anybody add a note on just what we're talking about here? -- 201.51.239.119 17:51, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- They do... about half-way down Soyuz spacecraft there's a "variants" section. The -TM was an evolved version of the -T three-man ferry, with better docking equipment, used for Mir and ISS; the -TM had new avionics and was rebuilt to allow it to take larger passengers (there had been problems with height restrictions, with some NASA astronauts too tall for Soyuz...) Shimgray | talk | 12:14, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to be mentioned on this page too - "The main modifications involve the interior layout, with new, improved seats to accommodate larger American astronaut anthropometric standards". Shimgray | talk | 12:16, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Article is broken, oh so very broken
[edit]Maybe it might be salvaged by renaming the article "SSF/ISS Crew Return Vehicle", maybe...--Craigboy (talk) 23:40, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
