There has been some debate within CCW and the national park authority as to the meaning of the name but 'gleisiad' appears to be a reference to salmon which at first sight seems odd but is likely to be an allusion to the colour of these Old Red Sandstone rocks. The Norman hunting forest of Fforest Fawr was not a forest in the common modern sense of the word but an area largely open in nature but with peripheral and scattered woodland. cheers Geopersona (talk) 10:17, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
