Why "region"?
@Springchickensoup:, why are you so keen to designate Cowal specifically as a region (or "Region" or now "geographical region"). Loosely it could be so described, I guess, but has been more simply and accurately defined in the opening sentence as "a peninsula in the west of Scotland". The term "region" often has an implication of it being an official political divison, which it is not. This may be why you have adapted the sentence to now read "geographical region", which seems somewhat contrived and is unsupported. A dictionary definition of "region" which makes no mention of Cowal, let alone whether Cowal is regarded as one, is simply not pertinent here and should be removed. And a red squirrel charity site? Hardly an authority on geography or politics (though it seems spot-on about furry beasties). To remove potentially confusing implications of the word one could run the first two sentences together by replacing "The geographical region" with "which", or keeping the separate sentences and starting the second with "It".
(Incidentally, I note the squirrel site's home page, and some other pages, have an excessive use of capitalisation of ordinary nouns, similar to your own. Are you the author?) Mutt Lunker (talk) 22:08, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Argyll and the Isles Tourism call Cowal a "region"[1] in the first paragraph, of their page, Events and festivals. This is getting tiresome, it's not my job to teach you English and what a "region" is. {Springchickensoup (talk) 22:35, 5 February 2017 (UTC)}
- No, they refer to "Argyll and the Isles", then "the region" in that paragraph, not mentioning Cowal at all until the second paragraph where its Highland Gathering is mentioned alongside various events which are not in Cowal, clarifying again that the region referred to in the last sentence is "Argyll and the Isles". But even this region is just one in the sense that it is the area covered by Argyll and the Isles Tourism Co-operative Ltd.. Please do not create an article "Argyll and the Isles region" purely on the basis of this body's remit, (which incidentally is different to the two diocese' of that name).
- The page does, however, have a drop-down menu for (it's own designated) regions... of that region. See how confusing it can get? Why is it so crucial that you designate Cowal as a "region"? It seems possibly like puffery. It is potentially confusing and adds no clarity to the article.
- And I really, really wouldn't purport to be giving out lessons in English if I were you. Did you write the squirrel page by the way? Mutt Lunker (talk) 23:08, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Cowal is surrounded by Sea Lochs on three sides, making Cowal a natural formed "geographical region"! {Springchickensoup (talk) 23:01, 5 February 2017 (UTC)}
- Is that the new definition of a region then? And it's "sea lochs", wihout the caps, English teacher. Mutt Lunker (talk) 23:10, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Rewriting
I have made a start on wikifying this article. I will continue over the next week or so, any help will be appreciated. J3Mrs (talk) 21:11, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- I found a reliable source and added a section. There is much more to be removed. All I have time for now. J3Mrs (talk) 20:06, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Does anybody else think two maps in the infobox is one too many? J3Mrs (talk) 19:38, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
The erasing of Cowal from Wikipedia
Why is an editor being allowed to erase Cowal from Wikipedia? When places are located in Cowal, Cowal being in the article is pertinent to the page! There are multiple examples of this happening, latest I have noticed is on the “Dunoon Peir” page This personal vendetta against Cowal seems very suspicious! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C6:CE0F:6D01:C021:248:F830:C3BF (talk) 13:29, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Argyll and Bute removed?
Why was Argyll and Bute removed and replaced by the now defunct old "Argyllshire" page? NOT exactly current!!!! 2A00:23C6:CE0F:6D01:C112:368D:9122:76E3 (talk) 08:21, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
