Counties contesting championship
[edit]I can see how the old map, which indicated which counties were "dominant" in one code over another and which were dual, could be construed as WP:OR and I supported its deletion. However the new version simply indicates which counties contest which championships. These are all verifiable facts and I don't think this map constitutes OR. (Not sure what the protocol is for repeating the same comment on multiple articles.) --Eamonnca1 (talk) 21:29, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey sorry about that, I went to undo my edit but some how made a mess of it Gnevin (talk) 22:45, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Proposed reversion to name of County boards of the GAA
[edit]New York is not a county. Only in the GAA is it a "county". It is an area administered by an administrative body called a"county board". Such areas vary from small counties of the RoI like Louth to countries like the USA to continents like Europe. Europe is not a county. Propose that the name of this article revert to "County boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association" as it was before the reversion of good faith name change by another editor. - Laurel, see WP:BRD. You renamed, I promptly reverted. If you still want a rename, open a properly formatted WP:RM discussion in the normal way.
- Your claim that only in the GAA is it a "county" is very funny ... because this article is about the GAA. They can call it an electric hamster if they want to, and then if that becomes the WP:COMMONNAME, that's what we use. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:37, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- If the GAA chooses to call their administrative structure "Electric Hamster of the GAA in Mayo", as a private club they're perfectly entitled to do it. It would then be the job of Wiki to faithfully reflect that decision. So the article would then be called "Electric Hamster of the GAA in Mayo". The article might also refer to various nicknames of the body. There might even a follow some re-directs to some of the more common nicknames, such as "Come on ye hamsters". It would be wrong, however, for Wiki to ignore the wishes of the organisation itself as to how it wishes to describe itself. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:12, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- Laurel, you clearly have a problem with WP:COMMONNAME. Reading WP:OFFICIALNAMES may help you to undertsand why the article naming policy is as it is. If you still object to it, then you are free to open a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Article titles to seek consensus for a change.
- In the meantime, please accept that WP:COMMONNAME is a Wikipedia policy, and stop wasting the time of other editors by trying to use this talk page for a policy discussion.
- In any case, if you want to rename this page, the mechanism to use is at WP:RM. When a move is contested, just posting to the talk page is not enough. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:33, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'm backing the electric hamsters... Brocach (talk) 18:26, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

County Crests
[edit]Hi all wondered why some counties have the official County GAA crest and others have Crests the would associated with government administrative divisions. Is this a copy right issue or a simple wiki mistake. If so can it be changed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:4242:F900:9175:2DAB:8AEF:F150 (talk) 21:47, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
