Restoration

[edit]

"Schemes to traverse the M5 and the A38 are underway.[24]"

Now that the A38 underpasses have been successfully completed (as well as the new railway underpass), should this be changed? ElectronicsForDogs (talk) 22:19, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. That sentence is largely unnecessary because of the earlier sentence "Obstructions to the waterways' restoration also include roads such as the A38, the M5 motorway, and the A419, which were built after the canals were abandoned". We can re-use ref 24 for that, and be done with the sentence you've identified. MIDI (talk) 08:03, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. MIDI (talk) 08:03, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the page "Cotswold Canals" is a "disambiguation" page. This is really not right, because it unambiguously refers to the Cotswold Canals, the subject of the Cotswold Canals Trust's operations, and the term used collectively to refer to the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames and Severn Canal. I'm not sure of quite how to improve this: the last thing we need is Yet Another Page. Perhaps it should just redirect to the Trust, and the Trust page might start by mentioning "Cotswold Canals" as a collective term used to refer to the two constituent canals. Any ideas? A small thought - there are other canals which are technically in the Cotswolds:
Kennet and Avon Canal
Wilts & Berks Canal
North Wilts Canal
Although they aren't run by CCT, and I've never heard anyone refer to anything other than the Stroudwater Navigation and Thames & Severn Canal as "the Cotswold Canals", they nonetheless are canals within the Cotswold region.
Clear as mud, eh?
I suppose my suggestion would be: keep the disambiguation page, word it so it's clear it usually refers to Cotswold Canals Trust and their restoration route. Add the others as a footnote with a caveat. ElectronicsForDogs (talk) 16:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
