Negative Production Externality Figure Incorrect?

[edit]

This url shows a different figure for negative externality in production. https://www.economicsonline.co.uk/market_failures/externalities.html/

Logically, the wiki figure is incorrect. A negative externality in production means that the socially optimal production should be lower and the equilibrium price should be higher. The figure has all of this backwards. An example to consider is pollution from a factory; negative externality in production. Society would be better off with less production from the factory with less pollution and a higher price for the factory output. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Opulent1 (talkcontribs) 23:21, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to remove it, along with the positive production externality figure, as it is also incorrect. Surprised it wasn't removed earlier. ARandomName123 (talk) 15:26, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mas-Colell formula

[edit]

I have removed the Mas-Colell formula because (a) it is probably a verbatim copy of the material in the cited book, which contravenes WP:COPYVIO unless it is a loose paraphrase (which is highly improbable if not impossible); (b) Wikipedia is not an economics text book and the level of prior knowledge required to understand the working is far more that we expect of the general readership, making it wp:UNDUE (and even designed to intimidate); (c) it is a WP:SINGLESOURCE and a WP:PRIMARYSOURCE.

If anyone really thinks it should be restored, please respond to these challenges first. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 15:06, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect production externality graphs

[edit]

Both graphs for the positive and negative production externalities are incorrect.

Please see: Negative externalities (economicsonline.co.uk) and Positive Externalities - Economics Help.

The creator of the graphs seems to have flipped private marginal cost and social marginal cost. I've decided to remove both graphs, but a second opinion would be appreciated, along with a check of the other two graphs. ARandomName123 (talk) 15:25, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
