Overlinking

[edit]

we don't need to link the scores per WP:EGG. there is already clear {{main article}} link directly above the score table in Copa América Centenario. Frietjes (talk) 14:33, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Frietjes: I would disagree, linking gets you to the relevant information quicker and easier. This is nothing new, it is a very common practise to link the scores on the main article (see World Cups, European Championships, etc). Bring this up on WP:FOOTY to gain consensus if you want to change this practise. Secret Agent Julio (talk) 14:45, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The anchor links are the best way to go. I have restored that version. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:58, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Plastikspork: But why display the links on the page that link to the section they are in? The purpose of the links was to only display them on the Copa América Centenario article. Secret Agent Julio (talk) 20:48, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The links are somewhat spurious in both places, but if you are going to violate WP:EGG, might as well do it on both pages. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:48, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Plastikspork: I don't see how it violates WP:EGG, it seems fairly intuitive to me. You click the score and see more info about the match. Regardless, displaying the links on the group article is redundant and unhelpful, all for what, to prove a point? I originally had a longer string so that the article wouldn't technically be linking to itself (e.g. <includeonly>[[Copa América Centenario Group A#United States vs Colombia|</includeonly>0–2<includeonly>]]</includeonly>), could we use this instead? Secret Agent Julio (talk) 04:14, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Secret Agent Julio, I made {{Score link}} which should do what you want. Frietjes (talk) 14:16, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I appreciate it. Cheers! Secret Agent Julio (talk) 16:15, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
