These items were listed on the main page of the article as "facts," but I could not verify them. I'm moving them here in case anyone else would like to take a stab at documenting them and would like to move them back to the main page.
- It hosted the Olympic teams before LA.
- It aired on NBC, CBS and ESPN.
- It was the biggest Pro-Am race in the world, and helped the careers of greats like Greg LeMond, Andy Hampsten, Davis Phinney, Steve Bauer, Eric Heiden, Bob Roll, Phil Anderson, Raul Alcala and many others.
- It was the biggest women's race in the world, hosting stars like Olympic champions Connie Carpenter, Jeannie Longo, Beth Heiden and Rebecca Twigg.
