[edit]Hey, I remember doing Coon Rapids history back in fifth grade, but is it really relevant to the page? Plus it seems as though it was copied from some other webpage. Rubbrchikin 01:31, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Just curious.....
[edit]Hi, My name is Scott & I live in the Twin Cities. I am curious to know if any of the people living in Coon Rapids IA have ever denounced the name of your city or have heard the rumbling of committee's forming/trying to form, with the purpose of changing the name of your city because of the derogatory slur "Coon?" I ask because we also have a city with the name Coon Rapids. Its a suburb of Mpls. just to the north west of down town. The whole idea just makes me mad...not because I stand behind the racial slur, its more to do with the fact that I took the time to look into the origin of the name, & what do you know, it had nothing to do with skin color. Just as with yours, it was named after, or maybe more because of a river where large populations of racoons were found along with one if the main means of survival by providing for; at this time was the fur trade. I looked it up because if I had found that the name stemmed from some early form of segregation & racially motivated, then yeah, I could get behind something like that.... but its not & people need to get real & not be so quick to follow the herd off the cliff..focus this energy & money on much better, more important things.
Anyway, let us know...
